I'm calling it early! Malcolm has already started campaigning with a swingeing attack on sound-byte politics (hmm, who could THAT be directed at!) at the Woodford Folk Festival. With Mr -63% as LOTO the LNP would be absolutely crazy to take that toxic man to the 2013 election. Sure, he is still likely to win but a change of leader could be the difference between potentially managing yet another minority government and a landslide of bloodbath proportions. The choice is pretty clear and the LNP brains trust MUST be thinking the same thing.

He's looking positively Prime Ministerial - aiming for the youth vote too, at a music festival with young Wyatt Roy.

If that happens, Labor will have to consider Rudd. Gillard can beat Abbott, but Turnbull?

Still, Turnbull's multi-millionaire, merchant banker status could count against him. Remember Hewson standing next to his Ferrari on the way to losing the "unlosable election"?

The party has to vote for Turnbull, can't see that.
He is as popular as Rudd is in the Labor party.

Yes, he did.
But a lot of water has run under the bridge since then.
I think the coalition is now leaning more to the right.
You are correct about the conservative right hating Turnbull, but the polls are also a powerful motivation factor. If there is one thing a politician dislikes more than having a leader they don't like it's being in opposition.

Whether or not this will actually happen.

And haven't a number of the AGW deniers (like Minchin) retired since that leadership spill? Be interested to see how the numbers were looking now.

Still, it would take either a further narrowing of the polls, or a major gaffe by Rabbit. Both are well and truly on the cards.
