Letterman a father at 56. Too Old?

Dave Letterman is pregnant!!! Do you think its fair for him to bring a child into the world at such a late age? Is it kind of an ego thing? How many tiems do you see old rock stars having kids wh their much younger new wives.

How much time will this kid have wh his father whos in his late 50's and in poor health. Do you think theres an age when people should just stop having kids.

So, if I could sum up my position on the question of wheater there is an age at which people should stop having kids, I would say, No. :D
 
if you want the baby, if youre going to love the baby and provide for the baby than youre not too old.

let's just hope the baby doesnt get his teeth or hair.
 
So when the kid is 14, wanting to play basketball, baseball and go fishing and camping with his dad, his dad will be seventy. Having a kid at such a late age is pure selfishness.
 
Nothing in life is guaranteed....Better a seventy-rear old father than a deceased father that would have been 30....

hehe- I speak as a 57-year-old who has no desire to reproduce whatever!

We keep getting older as a society, and I have to admit that 70 seems pretty attractive to me at this stage!
 
Letterman

It's fine for David Letterman to have a child at his age. He may live to be a 100, you don't know. But at least I bet this child will know his father for several years, and it will probably be quality years.

My father was older, and died certainly before I was ready for him too. But I cherish every single year he was here, and he had more impact on my lifethan anyone else.

Many younger men father children, and then never have anything to do them or even see them.

The quality of the time that this child has with the father is what is important. And I would pretty much bet that the child will be left in a pretty good financial situation when Letterman goes.

Telling someone that they should not have a child because of their age, is where the selfishness lies.

My dad was 69 when I was born.

I don't think you're quite right, Sundog.

I don't know if it's really "selfish." While making the announcement last week, Letterman hinted that he never expected to have a child and that the pregnancy wasn't exactly "planned." Perhaps he's a big pro-lifer (doubt it tho)...perhaps, when confronted with the reality of having a kid, he decided it's what he wanted after all. Maybe his gf convinced him (not that she shouldn't have a say in the matter otherwise). The man is financially secure, it's not like he can't provide for the kid. He's not ancient, like Tony Randall. I dont know about basketball or baseball, but many 70 year olds still fish and camp. I say congrats and good luck. And, as he said on his show after making the announcement, not only will he be the child's father.. he'll also be its grandfather. :)

How can giving someone life be "selfish".
