Let the Tea Party take over the GOP

Or at the very least, let the Tea Party grow even bigger, so the GOP has no choice but to let them have their way.

Why do I call for this?

#1. Its possible that their fiscal conservatism will allow the Democrats to make cuts in programs that really need it, like the military and corporate welfare.

#2. It allows the Democrats to portray the opposing side as extremist wackos, thereby making Obama and the Democrats appear sane, moderate, and the lesser of two evils.

so keep it up, Tea-Party. Onwards and upwards!!!

The democrats had their chance to portray the opposing side as extremist wackos for the last odd decade and didn't do it. Why would they suddenly grow a spine now?
 
I agree with HumanityBlues.

I'm afraid what is more likely to happen is the Democratic Party will begin adopting more and more planks of the "Tea Party" platform as their own.

They have plenty of spine. They are mad as hell about whatever their handlers point them at, and they are not afraid to stand up and say it.

Brains are what the Tea Party lacks.
Brains, and a grip on reality. And empathy, reason, and an understanding of history.
And a clue.

I'm sure a lot misguided souls voted bagger last cycle, think, "How bad can they possibly be?"

And now?

The Tea Party will either grow, or self limit.

As I noted a while back, I believe President Obama is thinking strategically. The TP rolls into Congress on a platform of outrage. The emotion will get spent in the next year or two, and some voters will either see the outrage turned into productive action (which means the TP has more substance than some of us suppose at the moment) or they'll get outraged out of office in 2012 ... which plays into a long term Strategy, if that is what President Obaba is up to ... which I think it is.

Tea Baggers had a meeting for all the newbies in Congress a day or so ago.
OF the 47 who campaigned with their premises....four (4) showed up.

I think that was the in the Senate, and there were only four of them to begin with.

Is it the general consensus here at the "James Randi Educational Foundation - a place to discuss skepticism, critical thinking, the paranormal and science in a friendly and lively way" that the "Tea Party" is a bad thing?

If so, why is that?

What is objectionable in those bolded principles and ideals?

Do the "skeptics and critical thinkers" of JREF, to the contrary then, generally favor increased government spending, higher taxes, increase of the national debt and federal budget deficit, and opposition to an originalist interpretation of the United States Constitution?

Is the obvious general antipathy, disdain and contempt so loudly voiced for the "Tea Party" here at JREF because they are generally taken to be of a conservative/libertarian perspective and therefore must be attacked as the opposition to the Democratic Party?

Are the "skeptical critical-thinkers" here mostly loyal Democrats?
