Magician Lance Burton risks his life in the most dangerous illusion that Houdini had ever conceived but never performed himself. The death tank is three escape tricks in one. In order to live, Lance Burton must escape from a regulation straitjacket, being buried alive in an airtight tank filled with water and survive the water torture cell. Burton said, "This is the most dangerous illusion anyone has ever done." He was viewed underwater for two-and-a-half minutes until the death tank was covered with a canvas tarp. Seconds later he emerges out of thin air drenched and walking across the stage only to be welcomed by a standing ovation from viewers at the live taping of his second NBC special "Lance Burton: Master Magician: The Encounter" that aired on Saturday, September 20.

One thing that became obvious to me after I saw the final few seconds of the clip was that he was actually out of the straitjacket and tank within the first few seconds of the trick and was posing behind the tank at the "Checkpoints".

yes, and how Burton got from one spot to another is blatantly evident, yet they pull it off making it look easy, when they must have practiced the feat thousands of times to get it just right.

What clip were you watching?

DrMatt watched the same video as I did. I can't say one way or another if Burton was out of the jacket and tank within the first few seconds of the trick, but he definitely is out when the last "peek" is given to the audience.

Lavie, any ideas on how Burton "suddenly" reappears, or more direct to the point- do you know when and how he pulls this off simply by watching the video?
