I recently saw an interview in which Kobe was asked how he was able to concentrate on basketball with the distraction of a rape trial. He said something on the order of "It all comes from God. I pray, and God gives me the skills that I need". Yeesh. It's bad enough when other people promote the idea of God-as-Santa giving out gifts to people who pray enough. But God helps people avoid the consequences of their actions? Now there's an idea. Has this guy no sense of decency? What kind of person does this kind of stuff, then asks God to clean up the mess for him? I can't help but feel like this is really a way to work in the fact that he's "Christian". "Ooh, look at me. What a good Christian I am. When I'm in trouble I turn to God. I'm not one of those silly atheists that try to just rely on myself."
