Kiss yer free MP3's goodbye

They are good at this sort of thing.......Look at the way hackers have been wiped from the face of the earth. Oh and lets not forget how effectively they disposed of all these Viruses and Trojans that used to plague the net.

Yep Piracy is wrong....IMHO theres no great moral dilema there.

The point is that they may well aim at Kazaa etc.....However there is more than one way to skin a cat and the technology is always about 3 years infront of these types of actions....

For some of the latest.

I agree that illegal copying of copyrighted material is wrong but can't help thinking that the music industry protesteth overmuch. For decades music has been vastly over-priced, particularly here in the UK. It's hardly surprising that people are unwilling to pay up to £20 for a cd which costs pennies to produce.

Trading conditions change constantly for all businesses, the music industry is not immune. It will have to adapt to new circumstances and accept that the salad days are over.

Its a bit of both. Obviously stealing mp3's is just that, stealing. But the recording industry has also created this situation for themselves so I don't feel overly sorry for them either. I generally sample music via mp3, and then go buy the CD's if I like them. What pisses me off these days is when I go out and buy a CD, and all my mp3 pals go, oh hey, thats a cool CD, I'll have to burn that off yah. To which I say "F*ck off, I bought it, why should I give it to you for free free-loader :)". It's one of my new minor pet peeves.

Wny not just let THEM buy the next CD, so you can pull yourself a copy? "Filesharing" in a completly legal manner, among friends...

The odd thing is, before burning I didn't think twice about taping a friend's CD.

But IIRC, the recording industry tried to have tapes banned too.

That is not obvious to me, unless you speak of physically stealing the media where the mp3s are stored. Illegal distribution of mp3s is a copyright violation, not a theft.

And in case someone wonders: every single mp3 that is in my hard disk is obtained legally according to Tekijänoikeuslaki 8.7.1961/404 (Finnish copyright law).

Yeah and Im "filesharing" HBO for free with my cheater cable box.

Im a cable freedom fighter! Why should I pay for it, its going over cables laid on pubic land. Im the public.........Sex in the City belongs to me.!

Except that's a violation of copyright law, so it isn't legal.

I doubt this means an end to free mp3's. If music companies are using the records of the big name file sharing programs the people will just change to other mediums to swap files. The whole point of the Internet is to transfer information. It works pretty well.

Until the American justice system becomes as quick and easy as file sharing I'm confident this is more of a P.R. stunt on the part of the RIAA. There are just too many people out there to sue and the courts move too slowly. A few headline cases may scare some people back into the record store, but it will not stop file sharing.

I have not bought a new CD (other than Wierd Al) since the mid 90's. Nothing since then has been good enough to buy. I will download some stuff my friends say is good but I usually delete it within a month because I can't listen to it more than a few times. I guess I am getting to the point that my CD collection has all the music I really need to listen to.

P.s. "Poodle Hat" was funny but definitely not Al's best work.
