I remember the movie well. Of course, I was too young to associate it with a commie menace. It was just a good, scary film to frighten an 8 year old into being afraid to fall asleep. I never took an adult view of it.

RIP. 96 years. That's a life.

(I'd suggest having this thread moved to Movies/TV)

One of the scariest things I ever heard was that town alarm blast horn while the inhabitants are chasing the couple up that long flight of steps.

Yeah, the Don Siegal 58 film remains the best version..the 1978 version is also very good, but, as Phil Kauffman has pointed out, it can be regarded as a sequel to the Siegal film.
The other versions since are best forgotten,as is the film of Heinlein's "The Puppet Masters" a novel that has many simlarities to Body Snatchers and was actually published before.

Is anyone else familiar with the movie Mirage?

While McCarthy only had a supporting role in this film, his role was quite memorable all the same. Also, there was his work in UHF which showed his comedic side.

Kevin McCarthy was a really good character actor, one of those, "I know I've seen him before, but I can't place the name, guys". His IMDb lists over 200 credits.

I just watched a movie over the weekend called Hotel and he was great as a hotel mogul.
