Moderators, not sure where this fits but posting this here. Just seems so nuts

There are numerous sources all calling Katy Perry a Witch over her Grammy Performance

Went with Right Wing Watch and Glenn Beck

Beck: Katy Perry's Grammy Performance Was 'Full-Fledged Witchcraft And Demonic Glorification'
Submitted by Kyle Mantyla on Tuesday, 1/28/2014 3:37 pm

Glenn Beck was deeply disturbed by Sunday night's Grammy Awards show, but not for the reason all the other Religious Right activists are outraged. In Beck's case, he was upset by Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" performance, which was unmistakably "demonic."

Calling the performance "full-fledged witchcraft and demonic glorification," Beck said Perry's performance is further proof that American society is worshiping a false, demonic god ... "and it's not going to end well":

Mainly they see evil where it is not but not see evil where it really is like allowing people to starve.

No, not anything I don't expect just wanted to have others know about it

No, they saw the symbols and motifs where they were quite deliberately placed. There is a huge difference between recognizing representations of "Satanic" rituals and asserting that those representations are actually sign of devil-worship, but, again the fact that the secular media picked up of the "Satanic" symbols and motifs is quite indicative of the fact that they are not exactly occult (get it...hidden) references.

What's wrong with witches?

Nothing. I think that witchcraft and the occult was exactly what Katy Perry's creative team was going for when they design the performance, so it's not surprising that witchcraft and the occult are what people–Christian and secular alike–saw.

I wasn't specifically asking you, but I'm glad you don't see a problem.

What I want to do is ask the people who are actually complaining about the act.

Are you really serious? What objection could people possibly have to an artist with high media exposure glorifying the worship of the embodiment of evil in your religion?

Yes, and saying it that way just makes me more questionable about the complaints.

Part is also just how seriously many religious people seem to take this, as if she is really casting spells not just having some fun.

I think we should be more surprised at the religious people that don't take it seriously.

Witches are to be killed. Why would a god give us a rule like that, if there weren't any witches or if witchcraft was a fun subject?

That last lot to embrace satanic symbolism ended up burning down churches (Fantoft Stave Church for example).

not just having some fun.

Its safe to assume that anyone as mainstream as Katy Perry isn't going to be doing something at a major awards event just to have some fun.

I'm not sure what objection is; the performance uses symbols and motifs that are widely associated in Christianity with Satan worship. Why does it surprise you that people who are hypervigilant about the representation of what they consider evil saw what they were looking for in a none-too-subtle performance, especially since the secular reportage on the performance commented on the same things?

Well, I wouldn't say exactly surprise, but I for one am still dismayed that people in the 21st century still believe in the strawman that devil worship and witchcraft (as described in just about any book about it from the Renaissance) always were.

There were other after them which worship "satan" (more hedonism actally). The church of satan is still alive as far as I can tell, and doing perfectly legal stuff.

Those norwegian guy sounds more like dejected youth using "mysanthropic devil worhsip" as an excuse than anything else.

I try not to think too much about it, otherwise I get depressed that some of my US colleague are actually YEC, or witch believer.

Kinda hard to kill anyone, even a witch, without breaking God's own 'Thou Shalt Not Kill' rule. Why would God give us that rule if he really wanted us to kill people?

The rule I know says "thou shalt not murder". A rule that forbids murder still leaves many, many opportunities to kill.

Also, it's only sensible to interpret "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" as a clarification on the more general "thou shalt not kill/murder."

And, no, it is not "hard". Christians have been killing people based on their stupid rules for many centuries. Don't get me wrong: I am glad that most of them have stopped - but i don't see how they are justified in doing so.

Well, God only wants you to kill the people he wants dead. No Freelancing allowed.
