Her fashion accessories are famous icons and now she has hanged herself.

Kate Spade, American Designer, Dead at 55

New York Times said:
The American designer Kate Spade was found dead on Tuesday, according to police officials.

The police said that Ms. Spade, 55, was discovered unresponsive at a Park Avenue apartment, where she had hanged herself. She had left a note, but the official did not comment on what it said. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:26 a.m.

A housekeeper found Ms. Spade in her bedroom hanging from a red scarf tied to a doorknob, the police said. She was unconscious and the housekeeper called 911...

I just read about this. Once again, it illustrates that money, fame, comforts that those things provide, in the end don't matter.

Now, she leaves the people in her life that loved her, to start the torment of questions. "If only", "Maybe if I had . . ."

Jonathan Winters, Robin Williams, Freddie Prince....

At least they didn't use high capacity scarfs and take a bunch of innocent people to their own privater hells.

The married mother of one left behind a note, and appeared to be having relationship problems, according to sources.

It was over family problems … in her relationship,” a police source told The Post.

Spade, born Katherine Noel Brosnahan, leaves behind husband Andrew Spade — the brother of comic actor David Spade — and their 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade. She was the aunt of “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star Rachel Brosnahan...

Also reported is that the note tells her young daughter that she is not to blame. Associated Press says her husband was at home when the body was discovered by the housekeeper.

I don’t think it means they don’t matter, but we can say they may not be sufficient.

She/her brand was described as a "household name" on the BBC news earlier. Neither I nor my wife have ever heard of it/her.

She was a designer most popular for her purses and bags, but I assume she did lots of other things. I always thought her designs very nice. Clean designs with strong color choices. From my recollection her stuff was never cheap.

That was true for a long time but not anymore. She sold out many years ago for around $100 million. Since then the company has been sold again at least once. Now it's worth over $2 billion. Products with her name are sold at Walmart, Target and even Best Buy (smartphone covers and cases).

There are reports saying that her husband was planning to move out because of marriage problems.

Thanks. I should have hit wiki instead of relying on my recollections.

There probably is still a boutique line of KS products that are very expensive, but I'm not sure.

Saw this news today and immediately told my wife, who has set us back a few hundos over the years on Kate Spade purses.

My first thought was "I bet they'll be worth more now"

What "innocent people" are you referring to in this case?

Kate Spade suffered years of mental illness, sister says. Suicide 'not unexpected'

Kansas City Star said:
Grieving deeply, Kate Spade's older sister told The Star on Tuesday that her famous designer sister suffered debilitating mental illness for the last three or four years and was self-medicating with alcohol.

Spade's apparent suicide on Tuesday, at age 55 inside the bedroom of her New York Park Avenue apartment "was not unexpected by me," Reta Saffo, Spade's older sister by two years, told The Star by email from her house in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Family members struggled mightily to help Spade but to little avail, she said. "Sometimes you simply cannot SAVE people from themselves!" she wrote. Spade seemed concerned how hospitalization might harm the image of the "happy-go-lucky" Kate Spade brand, she said.

She saw how her sister seemed fixated on Robin Williams on the day, in August 2014, that he committed suicide by hanging.

"I think there was a plan even as far back as then," Saffo said...
