"In an explosive telephone argument that led to her firing, publisher Judith Regan allegedly complained of a "Jewish cabal" against her in the book industry..."

Right, because it certainly wasn't her remarkably idiotic decision to greenlight O.J. Simpson's "If I Did It". It must have been the Jews.

What surprised me the most? I had assumed Judith Regan was Jewish.

To paraphrase Krusty the Clown from The Simpsons: "I thought she was a self hating Jew, now I find out she's just a regular anti semite"

For an hour this morning I couldn't find my 3-hole punch. Later I found it on another desk. Who moved it? My receptionist.

And she's a Jew.

Moral of the story: When in doubt, a Jew is probably behind your troubles. Judith Regan is wise and learned.

The Jews stopped her from publishing OJ's book? Apparently she defines "jew" as anyone with common decency.

Are you a celebrity on the skids?
Have you just done something really, really stupid and got caught?

Well, here at the Institute for the Famous and Stupid, we've introduced a new program to help you deal with the pain. Our patented Blame the Jews(tm) system allows you to cope with your situation with rage, hatred, and above all, a complete disregard for any sense of self-responsibility.

Not only can BTJ help you absolve yourself of responsibility in your own eyes, it can also allow you to feel no sense of shame or regret at your stupidity, and you'll also feel as if you were the one wronged!

Just listen to what these clients had to say:

"Before, I was just a drunken moron who everyone suspected of being an anti-semite. Now, thanks to BTJ, people know that I'm definitely an anti-Semite!" - Mel Gibson

"I used to be a crazy lunatic that nobody took seriously. But since I started blaming my problems on the Jews, my popularity has soared to new heights with Western intellectuals like David Duke and Robert Faurrison!" - Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

"Everyone said that publishing OJ's book was a bad idea. But thanks to the BTJ program, now I know that it was those pesky Jews keeping me down!" - Judith Regan

Order today! Operators are standing by!

It's tough to keep track of all the people being accused of anti-semitism. It's like there are as many anti-semites in our era as there were communists in Senator McCarthy's time, or witches in colonial Salem.

Um...In some cases, I'd agree. But it's not like Regan said something critical of Israel (which is usually where you see empty accusations of anti-Semitism).

Regan claimed a Jewish conspiracy was behind her firing and ultimately responsible for her own stupidity. How is that not anti-Semitic?

Wait a sec. I thought Jews would be in favor of intensely shallow and culturally damaging attempts to earn money, of anything goes as long as you get some bucks out of it.

Boy have I been surfing the wrong web sites!

perhaps the word "allegedly" should be in there somewhere?

Works for self-pitying ex-presidents flacking their books, too:
Book reviews in the mainstream media have been written mostly by representatives of Jewish organizations who would be unlikely to visit the occupied territories, and their primary criticism is that the book is anti-Israel. Two members of Congress have been publicly critical. Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for instance, issued a statement (before the book was published) saying that "he does not speak for the Democratic Party on Israel." Some reviews posted on Amazon.com call me "anti-Semitic," and others accuse the book of "lies" and "distortions." A former Carter Center fellow has taken issue with it, and Alan Dershowitz called the book's title "indecent."

Out in the real world, however, the response has been overwhelmingly positive. I've signed books in five stores, with more than 1,000 buyers at each site. I've had one negative remark — that I should be tried for treason — and one caller on C-SPAN said that I was an anti-Semite. My most troubling experience has been the rejection of my offers to speak, for free, about the book on university campuses with high Jewish enrollment and to answer questions from students and professors. I have been most encouraged by prominent Jewish citizens and members of Congress who have thanked me privately for presenting the facts and some new ideas.
Jimmy Carter isn't anti-Semitic, regardless of what the Jews who control the media and the universities want you to believe.

In defense of Regan: This conversation was reported by her opponents in a PR war without any evidence whatsoever that it actually happened, or in the way that it was leaked.

Let's hypothesize for a moment that the entire portion of the conversation that was reported took place, but without the "Jewish" before the "cabal." Then you'd have an entirely innocuous conversation.

It's now my turn to be the wag around here and remind everyone to apply a modicum of skepticism, especially considering who's involved. Be wise: discount pronouncements from the agents of Rupert Murdoch.

Carter has tried to apologize for his use of the word apartheid to describe Israel. However, although he has probably not been invited to speak to many Jewish schools, it was he who turned down an offer to speak at Brandeis, if it meant having to debate Alan Dershowitz on the grounds that he feels Dershowitz "knows nothing" about the subject of Israel and Palestine. (Sure, Dershowitz, unlike Jimmy Carter, Henry Kissinger or Yassar Arafat, never won a Nobel Peace Prize, but he penned a book on the subject that garnered mostly positive reviews; I suppose that's because, as Judith Regan allegedly noted, the Jews run the publishing industry.)

He didn't try to apologise, he clarified his use of the word apartheid. He still appears to feel his use of the term is valid. That is, the occupied territories are apartheid, Israel outside of the occupied territories is not.

Oddly, enough, Judith Reagan's spokesperson is taking the OJ "If I Did it..." Defense

And even had Regan used the phrase "Jewish cabal," Fields said he wouldn't consider that anti-Semitic either.

"I want to make it clear that had she said it, even that is not an anti-Semitic remark," he said. "Had she said it, I wouldn't be offended, as a Jew."

Well, maybe Mr. Fields would be flattered to be thought of as being part of a secret conspiracy to control the publishing industry and take down Judith Regan. Actually, I'd only be offended at the "secret" part. I think it would have been great to be part of any group that took down Judith Regan.

Yes, he tried to clarify that his use of the word "apartheid" was not meant to indicate a segregation based on race or the racial superiority of one ethnic group over another... which is the very definition of the word "apartheid". If he meant to use the word "separation", perhaps you'd think he'd take better care in devising the very title of his book.

I find it very difficult to believe that, contrary to what he now claims, he did not fully understand the inference of racism inherent in using the word "apartheid".

Here's a quote from the article:
Carter wrote that "apartheid in Palestine is not based on racism but the desire of a minority of Israelis for Palestinian land and the resulting suppression of protests that involve violence."
The problem is that the word apartheid means "any system or practice that separates people according to race, caste, etc." If, as he claims, that's not what he meant, you'd think he'd have come up with a better word for the very title of his book.

I've modified your post to present the more likely intent of Regan's remarks, if she ever made them.

... part of a secret conspiracy corporate policy to control the publishing industry and take down fire Judith Regan. Actually, I'd only be offended at the "secret" part. I think it would have been great to be part of any group that took down Judith Regan.

The word "cabal" -- which Regan's spokesperson acknowledges she used -- is an awfully odd way to describe a corporate policy, but a very appropriate way to describe a secret conspiracy. In fact, that's the very definition of the word.

He used it in the sense of the occupied territories as opposed to Israel proper. That is, people living in a country, who do not have a vote in it.

And it is based on race.
