John Edwards on how to avoid fake mediums

Oof that was painful. Good thing I don't have an irony meter or I'd be dead from the shrapnel of it's explosion. What a maroon.

Capitalism at work, but not done well.

You're supposed to improve the quality of your product before you say smaller companies turn out inferior products. To improve the product of, let's say, John Edward, you make it bigger. Edward should make the dead people he talks to COME ALIVE! ON STAGE! Make those dead babies show up and do a dance!

And look at this. When you go to a John Edward workshops all the little guys flood your windshield with spam. Why?

JOHN EDWARD: The downside of the show is that it inadvertently glamorized the psychic profession. Some people get into it as a way of achieving fame, maybe because they feel acting is too competitive. This really has my hackles up. It isn't about ego - I have more clients than I know what to do with - but I am very concerned about these brand-spanking-new "mediums" who are writing books about their psychic development and doing readings for $500. I find that morbidly offensive. I've done this work for over 20 years and don't charge that much! That's not to say that some of these people aren't psychic - everybody has psychic ability - but there are ethics and responsibilities that come with this kind of work and to fully understand and acquire them takes years of experience. I worked as a psychic for several years before I would refer to myself as a medium.

Behold the opening of Edward's own show:
For entertainment purposes only.

Well, he certainly is entertaining.

How about this quote from the above link?

"A psychic should never ask you a lot of questions. It's the psychic's job to deliver the information." - JOHN EDWARD

Crossing over was a 20 questions show with the "wrong" answers edited out correct? :)

I just did a lecture on magic at Emerson College here in Boston. The subject on psychics came up and one of the girls in the class said a friend of hers worked on the John Edward show. She said her friend told her that she was forced to mingle with the audience before the show while wearing a hidden microphone. I asked her to please contact her friend and ask her to drop by here to tell her story.

Very interesting. She'll have to go public, of course.

Whether true or not, I assume with their NDA (because if they have audience members sign one, you know their employees do!) she'd be sued into the ground.

I'm not holding my breath on anyone going public any time soon.

I'd assume though that it would be easy enough for someone to be a source to a reporter, where they could shield their identity. That would be one way to make the information public which would be more credible than 'friend of a friend' information.

That's a darn good idea. Protection from the NDA and the information still gets out.

Should go to a rival broadcasting company, maybe they'll make it regional or national just to compete with the ratings. :con2: Obviously, I don't know too much about the TV biz, but it seems plausible at first glance...

Randi's commentary reminded me of an old joke:

Did you hear about the psychic who specialized in predicting disasters but failed to foresee her own death in a tragic house fire?

The headline read "Rare Medium Well-done".

I slay myself!

There are many psychic junkies out there - or potential ones - and I think it's important that they ask themselves, "Do I have an issue here? When is too much, too much?" I'm starting to see many of the same people, the same families, showing up over and over again at my seminars and group readings...
- John Edwards

Now right there. See? That gap. He's right on the verge of recognizing that there's something wrong with the clients he attracts.

Its not that there's good and bad psychics out there hitting the pavement and competing for new clients.
People hunt down 'psychics' and call all hours of the night.
Oh no, not big stuff like 'will there ever be world peace?' But things like: "I can't decide what color of car I should buy" or "Is this a good time to sell my horse?"

Let's not forget about that hidden microphone claim, your friend has a story worth thousands of dollars. She ought to get it out there!

I've been pointing this out for years now, despite frantic attempts from the JE-fan(atic)s we've had visiting here that there are safeguards making sure that the same people don't get repeated readings.

And here we have the man himself, saying that he has psychic groupies.

The question is, what does he do, when he spots a familiar face in the drooling crowd? Does he say: "Hey, I know you, I know too much about you, so I can't read you"?

Somehow, I doubt that. After all, he doesn't "control" who gets read, does he?

Isn't the cat so far out of the bag with Edwards that his audience dwindled so much his show got cancelled? Blowing on dying embers... This time next year he will be all but history.
