Gee whiz! Biden was my favorite candidate for this election, but due to his poor performance in Iowa he is dropping out of the race.

Dodd and Biden drop out of White House race

DES MOINES, Iowa (Reuters) - Veteran U.S. Sens. Joe Biden and Chris Dodd dropped out of the race for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday after placing a distant fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Iowa caucuses.

...

Biden, a frequent guest on Sunday TV talks shows who drew good reviews for his performances in Democratic debates, had voiced frustration about his White House bid while freshman Sen. Barack Obama, former Sen. John Edwards and Sen. Hillary Clinton dominated the headlines.

"I'm not a superstar," Biden told Reuters in an interview last month. "People say they like me, people tell me they think I'd be a good president but that they just don't think I can win."

...

Oh well, I sure hope that some other Democrat wins the election.

Yes, Biden, with an impressive resume, and an entirely likeable persona, probably would've been my choice. But the "story" this cycle is of the woman, or the black, or the preacher. No excitement or drama for the chatterers to be found elsewhere.

Dodd also dropped out last night and I imagine Richardson will follow suite after the early primaries.

I actually watch cspan. I watch senators/congressman conducting hearings. Biden always struck me as nothing more than a partisan shill full of loaded questions and pompous ego.

Maybe in his personal life he exuded some qualities that are presidential? I mean, he looks like a president. That counts for something?

Or maybe you just call 'em like you are 'em, eh?
This is Politics, isn't it? We all get to call 'em as we see 'em.

eta: And I agree with Corplinx's analysis above - the guy was more into being a grandstanding asshat than a leader of any sort.

According to my grandma, it's what got Warren G Harding elected.

(First pres elected after women got the vote.)

Teapot Dome for fifty, Alex.

One of my best friends in the world worked on his incredibly tragic first campaign in the 1970s (Biden won but his wife and daughter died in a car crash after the election but before his swearing in) and absolutely adores the guy. Judging strictly from his public statements I tend to agree with the "stuffed shirt" assessment but I respect her opinion highly.
