I did a quick search and didn't find this mentioned - did I miss it?

To have a decision reversed, wouldn't they first have to show there was a court decision in the first place? I don't believe any such record exists...

2000 years later: Jesus gets his day in court

(Reuters) - Did Pontius Pilate commit a human rights abuse when he ordered the crucifixion of Jesus Christ more than 2,000 years ago?... A case filed by a group called "Friends of Jesus" calls on the court to interpret the Law of Moses to determine whether Jesus received a fair trial for blasphemy.

Considering that the crucification of Jesus is pretty much the whole basis of Christianity, doesn't this cause theological problems?

I can't see why.

Outcome 1: He got a fair trial and was crucified for his beliefs, thus making him a martyr. Christians are happy.

Outcome 2: He didn't get a fair trial and was wrongly crucified, thus making him a martyr. Christians are happy.

It would have saved a lot of trouble over the last couple of thousand years if they'd acted promptly enough for:

Outcome 3: Jesus's lawyers file a writ of habeas corpus...

Did the concept of "human rights" and their abuse even exist in Roman law
in the 1st Century?

Shouldn't someone implicate Jesus' dad for conspiracy to commit premeditated murder-- this was his plan, right?-- Blood atonement, original sin, yada, yada-- And what's the big deal? Who wouldn't agree to a day and a half on a cross followed by guaranteed happily ever after where you get to be invisible AND have people worship you? If you are living forever how what the heck does "being murdered" even mean?

Congratulations, I was about to enter that - and secondarily, I do not believe they would have habeous corpus provided for non citizens if it was in place at all.

So, which of the highly reliable and uncontradictory trial transcripts are they going to use. Oh, wait

Yeah, thats where I was going with this. The ONLY evidence there was even a trial is based on hearsay written hundreds of years later. This looks to me like really stoopid xtians about to find themselves in a logical morass. I seems to me that any court would have to rule that there is no record of any trial and thus no verdict to overturn. Where does that leave the complainants?

You failed to twist things up enough - Jesus is his Dad.

Remember that old song "I'm My Own Grandpa."? It was used as evidence in court to explain the Trinity.

The court system in Kenya must be a little underworked and/or overstaffed if they can take on such nonsense.

You forgot to mention the little problem with Mary. You know, knocking up a married woman and all that stuff. From what I've heard there was no consent, so it sounds like . . . rapturatory rape . . . something like that.:D

My favorite quotes:
...because as we stand today Jesus Christ remains a convicted criminal, we want the records to be set right
I had never thought of it that way, but he's right! Christians all around the world are following the teachings of a convicted felon!
We may go to other jurisdictions, international jurisdictions and seek redress
Who will be responsible for paying any compensation? And to whom will it be paid? According to the Biblical record, Jesus had no offspring, so there are no ancestors to lay claim to it.

I suggest that this man is going about this all wrong. He should not be pushing the courts to re-try this case. Rather, he should be suing all the world's governments (and the U.N.) for their failure to create a time machine, which could be used to go back in time and determine, unequivocally, Jesus' guilt or innocence.

A time machine still wouldn't be enuf...

Scientist: Welcome back. Was Jesus tried fairly or unfairly. How did it go?

Time Travel Secret Agent: Pretty good. Could find no "Jesus" for a full 40 year period back then, doing anything like this, though there were plenty of Jesusiz, Joshuas, and Yeshuas. Found dozens of local preachers and plenty of troublemakers who were executed. No miracles, though.

Scientist: No Jesus?

Time Travel Secret Agent: No Jesus.

Scientist: Well, there you have it...

Religious Apologist: It's clear the Devil diverted the time travel machine into some kind of parallel world past with a faked history that lacks Jesus.
