Jesus Camp - The Movie

It gives me the heebie jeebies too. Some people have thought that Dawkins delivered a low blow when he compared Haggard's sermon to a Nazi rally but I have to agree with him. He's not saying that these sorts of religious clergy have the same values as the Nazis, but he is pointing out, correctly in my opinion, that they both use many of the same propaganda techniques. Just watch old footage of Hitler at a rally and then watch John Hagee. It's scary. But it can help to explain why some religious people are so devoid of independent thought. Imagine people who let Bible camp or James Dobson provide every thought for them. *shudder*

Thanks for that, Ryokan. Someone asked me the other day why I was "at war" with christianity.

Case closed.

I'm not "at war" with Christianity or any religion per se, I'm more at war with ignorance and the general lack of necessary skepticism that should go with any absurd claim...which means...I guess... I am at war with religion.

Well, I'm sort of religious myself, so I can't say that I'm at war with religion in general.

However, I'm not just a Buddhist, I'm an atheist as well... And seeing things like this really makes the militant atheist I have deep inside me wake up and scream. I honestly believe that Christianity is one of the worst enemies of mankind we have in this day and age. Maybe not the worst of them, but certainly on the list.

Some may think this is inappropriate thinking for a Buddhist, but I say not. And I'm not alone.

I try to keep in mind that there are a great many faithful Christians who would find Jesus Camp disturbing too.

My first thought was a Madrasa where they teach people to hate anyone who is not Islamic (wait is that Christians who hate anyone who is not Christian, or maybe the PFJ).

No that's the People's Judean Front. We're the PFJ!

I don't have a major beef with religion in general. It's ORGANISED religion that scares the crap out of me.

I have a beef with religion, both organized and disorganized. My beef with organized religion is, however, the stronger of the two.

At least with disorganized religion, it's just a few scattered people who for whatever reason aren't able or willing to work within a logical, rational framework. When you carry that attitude over into an organized setting...well, it's like organized crime, but given God's Seal of Approval (TM) so that the followers think it's all OK.

And to add my two cents to the voices of reason in this forum: this video creeps me right the heck out. :eye-poppi
