Given how ultra woo-woo Mel Gibson is taken to seeing bumper-stickers as signs from the Almighty (always confirming his belief system, of course) how does THIS square with his beliefs?

"God WANTS ME to make this film, that's why He's IMBUING my actor with HIS HOLY ELECTRICITY!!!"

Comedy. Sheer comedy. Anyone get a story on this with a quote from Gibson? I'd LOVE to see how he fits this in his "signs from God" belief framework.

He didn't just get hit by lightning.

It was the second time Michelini had been hit by lightning during the shoot.

He got hit by lightning twice.

I bet none of the Jesus actors for Last Temptation and Jesus Christ Superstar, or even the one in Monty Python's Life of Brian got hit by lightning during production. Heck, not even the guy from Zombie Christ or the guy from Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter got hit by lightning. Not even once.

Oh well.

I don't know whether to take comfort or find concern that God might actually exist and disapprove of a Vatacin II rejecting Catholic making a film about the Passion.

In the words of Auric Goldfinger (et al), "Once is happenstance; twice is coincidence; but three times is enemy action." We'll have to wait to see if God (or Zeus) is really trying to shut down production.

Caviezel: So, God, do you expect me to walk away from this film?

Voice from sky: No, Mr. Caviezel. I expect you to die.

Michelini had previously been struck during filming in Matera, Italy, when he suffered light burns to his fingers after lightning hit his umbrella.

This guy was hit on both occasions while holding an umbrella on the top of a tall mountain during a thunderstorm... makes me start the rethink the whole religion of a-theism ...

Hey! That's the prince of the power of the air being cited in that forum!

He means business.

Obviously he has a big, strong point. You couldn't miss that even if he wore a hat to hide it. It would only dangle there like a bit of confetti on a pencil tip.

Someone told me that actors who had played the part of Jesus in movies died soon afterwards...don't know if it's true or not.

Moron!

Brian Deacon starred as Jesus in Jesus.
Ted Neely starred as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Kenneth Colley featured as Jesus in The Life of Brian.
About the closest they could come would be Graham Chapman who starred as Brian.

Bah! Superstitious fools...

Got that right. They have a "supernatural explanation" for everything!

When I first read the headline, I thought maybe the article was going to state that the actor who was struck by lightning was the one who is playing the 'gay' Jesus in that one play. I thought, 'oh this will be a wake up call to people'

"My mom told me and she checks into this stuff, plus she's a Christian so she wouldn't make things up and all that said that all the actors who played... blah blah..."

Someone forgot to tell Willem Dafoe he's supposed to be dead or washed up instead of having a very active carrer.

Morons! I'm half tempted to join RR just for this thread alone!

How about this for the wrath of God:
Nearly everyone involved in "The Wizard of Oz" is now dead.
Coincidence? I think not. And your little dog, too.

Regarding the Rapture Ready board... what kind of idiot bb allows html in the sigs? Do we really want to see peoples' tired html crap over and over again in their sig lines?

This will lead to a great revival. Make everyone you know go see it!!!!! Maybe we can make it #1 and show that America can still love Jesus!

Anecdotal evidence of the weak egos of the christ-yellers, IMO.

Oh for the love of.....<smack>
The RR loony tunes have struck again...

The opposition to the Gibson project seems also to extend to the supernatural realm. While on a remote Italian location several hours from Rome, actor Jim Caviezel, who portrays Jesus in "The Passion of Christ," and assistant director Jan Michelini were struck by lightning. They both miraculously escaped injury. Amazingly, this was the second time Michelini was struck by lighting while working on the film.

I am convinced that Satan is directly behind the attacks against "The Passion of Christ." Most people in the entertainment industry hate the movie because they allow demonic spirits to guide their thinking. These are the same people who applauded "The Last Temptation of Christ." They were the ones condemning the "right-wing fundamentalist Christian groups" for their narrow-minded views.

So which is it? A supernatural attack by Satan, a miraculous intervetion by God or God expressing his displeasure with the film?

I don't know why, in a world where there are real dangers, people would want to make up more situations where others are out to "get them."
