I like Jesse, and appreciate a lot of what he says. Although he's a bit over the top sometimes (even pulling a Godwin this time out):

Ventura gets big ovation at St. Olaf

Ventura stepped up attacks on Minnesota's current political leaders for supporting an expansion of gambling and the building of stadiums. "They can't solve the budget because they have no balls," he said.

"All these religious Republicans don't have a problem with gambling to balance their budgets."

He also warned darkly about what he described as a serious erosion of First Amendment rights under the Bush administration. He told the students, "Speaking out about your government is healthy and wholesome. ... Don't go along to get along."

I'm not sure about the gambling bit...he has been FOR exploring gambling expansion, but his point is well-taken.

I like the First Amendment line, but he followed it up with:

The Federal Communications Commission, he said, is rolling back free speech rights in "much the same way Nazi Germany did it."

I still wish there were more like him in, though...

And he was as harsh as ever in criticizing the media. Pointing to reporters in the front row, he called them "Bozos" and reiterated his labeling of reporters as "pedophiles" because of stories written about his son's behavior at the governor's residence.

Yeah, a bit.

I liked almost all of Ventura's political views. However, his off the cuff remarks were sometime over the top. Of course, I generally agreed with his remarks that other people thought were over the top.

I would vote for him. How about a Schwartzenegger/Ventura ticket in 2008?

Jesse's still pretty upset at the media. With reason. From his perspective, he had a legitimate complaint that the media was not making a solid effort to "get the story right," which should be a principal goal of every reporter. In addition, the media seemed to be more interested in tangential issues and unimportant matters than in what government was actually doing.

The current governor, a Republican, has many of the same complaints.

This is the problems with Godwin's law. Any student of history knows that this statement is very nearly correct, if not entirely so.

You do notice that stations are afraid to speak out for fear of their licenses, don't you?

Oh yes. You can take this boy out of the radio biz, but you'll never take the biz out of the boy.

Personally, I think Godwin's Law, by definition, has no business on a skeptics' forum. But it's meant as a joke and used mostly as such around here.
