'jelonet' - what does it do?

As per subject - just curious. Ended up going to nurse to have a cut dressed - she used steristrips and then put jelonet on top, and gave me some of the stuff in case I needed to change the dressing. She mentioned something about stopping bleeding, but all I can find online is info on jelonet for dressing burns etc...
 
you're right, there is no indication that it would stop blleding. it is a cloth impregnated with paraffin oil and it is intended to act as a protective barrier, which is less likely to stick to the wound. It also allows any exudate from the would to pass through and be absorbed by a secondary dressing. I've healed some pretty nasty cuts in the past with filter paper and adhesive tape, so unless you have a large area of skin loss, there's probably little advantage to it.
 
ah, sure. I guess minor cuts are going to heal and stop bleeding eventually, anyway :)
