Hi Gang,

I work at a physics department in some big company in Israel.
I would like to show James Randi clips (and others if you know of such) at a meeting of the department. Many people are interested to see themselves what I have been talking with them about for the past couple of months. The problem is that I will need Hebrew subtitles which may cost up to $600 to make.

In order to get the funding I need to provide reasons how this activity will contribute to the department.

So my requests from you:
1. Provide me with reasons I can highlight for my funding request.
2. Recommendations of James Randi clips and others if you know of such. They need to be in avi or mpeg formats and downloadable from the internet and without copyright restrictions.

Another question I have:
Are the videos in Youtube copyright protected or can I show them publically?

Thank you in advance and Regards,
Yair

yair,

I would suggest getting in touch with jeff@randi.org . I know Randi has done quite a bit of television and work in Israel and the JREF may already have video on file that you are looking for with sub-titles.

Excellent Idea BOO.
I have contacted Randi and he didn't mention such an option. That could be interesting to try.

Thanks,
Yair

I'm back to the drawing board.
I've contacted Jeff Wagg (double f double g).
Unfortunately he does not have any clips with subtitles in them.
So back to my original questions:
1. Provide me with reasons I can highlight for my funding request.
2. Recommendations of James Randi clips and others if you know of such. They need to be in avi or mpeg formats (in order to add subtitles) and downloadable from the internet. I have Randi's permission to add subtitles and play the clips publically.
Jeff said I could record streaming video of clips such as "secrets of the psychic" but can anyone tell me how I can do this and from where?

Much regards for your help,
Yair

I wonder where this "$600 cost for making Hebrew subtitles" comes from.

Free software is available for adding subtitles to video clips. Of course it's a lot of work, you need to adjust the timing of each translated phrase. The subtitles would be in a separate text file. When playing the clip, media player combines the video with the subtitles in real time.

It's a rough estimate I got for an hour long clip from a studio specializing in subtitles and translations.

I'm new to this board, but I just saw this thread and thought I'd reply.

Yair, I'm sure you can get subtitles for much less than $600, in fact you could probably get them for free if you did them yourself. If you speak both languages well enough to be able to translate what Randi is saying, all you need is some software.

Hope that helps!

Welcome Fatso...I'm sorry, Fasto :p

I could probably do it myself but I don't want to spend hours and hours
on this. I'd rather my work place pay for the job.

Regards,
Yair
