James Dobson behind Palin pick?

I was talking to a friend last night who is very knowledgeable in politics and history, and he theorizes that McCain was pressured to pick Sarah Palin as VP by James Dobson and other evangelical leaders, or else they would sabotage him at the Republican Convention (remember 1992?).

Anyone else think this theory has merit?

I don't know about Dobson specifically, but the choice of Palin was certainly aimed at, in part, to the crazy religious right.

If "not coming out to vote" counts as sabotage, then I suppose that part is possible.
