It's almost here! The culmination of seven years of conservative looniness and conspiracy theory thinking.

So, who wants to make bets on what will happen?

My thought: the troops won't be using live ammunition (as far as I know) while the legions of "observers" out to keep track of the evil Obama minions will be loaded with enough weaponry to become President For Life of an equatorial nation. As such I'd say the odds that at some point a bunch of the "patriots" freak out and gun down a wayward platoon in a slaughter leading to a manhunt will be about 50/50.
 
I predict nothing of significance will happen, and in the aftermath of the exercise(when I'm off on my own, so my ablility to confirm this will be limited until August 30) the CTists will be spouting off that the utter lack of martial law, etc will be because they brought it to everyone's attention...

This. This is all that will happen beyond the U.S. military getting in some valuable training.
 
I predict the good ol' boys planning to track the soldiers will show up in droves on the first day, then 95% of them will get bored real fast and start to drift off. Within 3 days it will be 2 hardcore Jade CTers and another guy who was just homeless and was a squatter.
 
I predicted what kookbreaker predicts AND two instances of drunk dudes shooting themselves and or/other non-lethal weapon safety issue failures.

I also secretly predict that there will be a lot of self back slapping because....

There will be bored observers, breathless loons and a mad scramble amongst the rumor mongers to take credit for stopping the planned takeover and enslavement of all the good god fearin' 'muricans by the secret moslem president that they didn't even vote for!

Agreed. Plus a few significant self-injuries preceded by the verbalization, "Hey- Watch this!"
 
I would add that there is a 1% chance a bunch of overarmed rednecks will shoot up a Lebanese restaurant for no apparently good reason....

Or said rednecks not realizing that not all Lebanese are Muslim?

I am certain enough that what you describe is not going to happen that, for a moment, I was going to offer 5:1 odds on an avatar bet. Then I realized that I don't want to pick an embarrassing avatar for you so now I have no desire to make an avatar bet.

In a similar 2002 training excercise (Robin Sage) two Green Berets in North Carolina were not in uniform when their car was stopped by a sheriff's deputy. The Green Berets, who were performing undercover reconnaissance as part of the excercise, had been told that some local LEOs were participating in the excercise. They attempted to disarm the deputy who shot them both. One died. No charges were brought against the deputy.

I suspect that the military will be keeping the training excercises well away from the Chicken-Little Texans who want to protect the U.S. from the U.S.

Wow. That sounds like a really dumb idea, just bound to go wrong.

It's a shame for the Green Berets and for the deputy, sounds like.

They are already saying that. Some are even saying that the exercise was not designed to bring about martial law but to leave valuable military equipment behind in place so that later fighters for ISIS can access it to destroy the USA from within. They can't lose with loony conspiracies like that.

I suspect that as Jade Helm comes closer to its end date that we will be hearing more of these fallback/backpedaling statements.
 
The guy "organizing" the "Jade Helm response" in Texas was on our local NPR affiliate yesterday, saying that nothing was happening and this was one of the things they had been worried about: that the military would just "lie low" until the watchers got bored and left, then put their nefarious plan into action. :tinfoil
