Joseph Petcka, as many other killers (he doesn't deny he did it so he's not a suspect, please), claims it was self defense.

He had to defend himself from a 7.5 pound (roughly 3.4 kg) de-clawed house cat.

Apologies if there's a thread somewhere else on this. I've been a little inactive the past couple of days.

If there's an asshat of the year contest, I'd like to nominate this brave soul.

This is a joke, right? The cat's alive and eating his Whiskas, while this pseudohuman joke is moving out to some rat hole in Oklahoma. Right?

Wow. Is he actually expecting that defense to fly? "No officer you don't understand! I had to beat the 7.5 pound tabby to death! I feared for my life! What?! No I'm not crazy! You've seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail it's the same thing!"

I'd ask the same about instances like this. Or this. It seems the only difference in the two cases I mention are that the people acting like jerks also have badges to hide behind.

To be fair dogs actually can be dangerous and do kill people. When was the last time anyone was killed by a domestic cat?

It's hard to find the actual news article if you just Google "Petcka & Self Defense" because it's been picked up by a zillion blogs. I spent some amount of time yesterday reading through them.

Someone signing him/her self as PETA PET FAN suggested that the person who had the pet declawed (I assume it's the girlfriend-owner) is just as guilty because little kitty could've defended himself if he had his claws.

Get real! He could've scratched a bit of damage, perhaps, but since a single bite infuriated Mr. Wonderful, the scratches would've just done the same.

The issue is that the sack of ca-ca can't manage his temper, and that it was probably far more of a jealousy thing than anything else. He'd developed a fixation over the fact that she was more fond of the cat than him and felt that the cat hated him, which is apparently true, as according to the girlfriend the cat would hiss at him any time they were in the same room together. (Well, the cat had better taste than the girlfriend, obviously.)

Did you read the articles? Those weren't cases where a justification of "I felt threatened" would have passed muster in any situation other than the fact that the jerks had police badges. In both cases they were embarrassments to the profession. And Petcka is an embarrassment to human beings. :p

As someone who was sent to the hospital by a rescued stray who bit my hand, and whose had was so swollen she had to receive intravenous antibiotics AND oral antibiotics for several days after, I can testify that cat bites can indeed be dangerous even if they -don't- have rabies...

...and that this guy is still a cowardly, disgusting piece of **** with the stupidest excuse ever and I have nothing but contempt towards him. Bastard.

Come to think of it, if I ever caught someone hurting my cat, I'd probably go to jail as a result. Sigh.
