I kepp having this weird problem with my work laptop. I have an Office toolbar set up at the top right of my screen as well as a few buttons set up on the taskbar on the bottom left.

The problem is that I will place items on the toolbar, and then weeks later they will disappear.

Is this a common problem?

Windows XP Professional Verson 5.1

Office 2002

Since there is an Office 2003 and an Office XP, but no Office 2002, I think we have found the problem :) .

Seriously though, it may be that since this is a work laptop, your company's IT department may be resetting profiles, which could remove any customizations you have made to the toolbars. There are some other Windows Registry settings that many companies are tyrannical about that could be affecting this as well. Do you know your company's policy on customizing or installing new programs?

Yep, chran is right. I was reading the OP as customized toolbars in Office programs. I also realized my number dyslexia is kicking in and I was seeing 2002, but thinking 2004. I should just go back to bed and start this day over completely.

Thanks chran and Hokulele. This morning, everything but one icon disappeared from my office toolbar and everything disappeared from my Quick Launch toolbar.

I right clicked the properties of the taskbar, and the "Hide inactive icons" was already unchecked.

Maybe I'll call the help desk (always a last resort).

Office XP IS Office 2002. When you do the Help - About in Office XP it's listed as Office 2002. Just as Office versions are also labelled via numbers:

Office 2000 - Office v9.0
Office XP - Office v10.0
Office 2003 - Office v11.0
etc.

Go into C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office and you will then see a directory for the appropriate version of office such as \office10 or \office11.

Microsoft enjoys naming or versioning products seven ways to Sunday :).

Whoops, guess I should read the whole thread :). Disregard the previous pendanic rant :D
