AP is reporting that the IDF armored force has started maneuvering for operations into Gaza. (It is now 00:40, June 28th local time)
IAF jets are bombarding bridges and other strategic points.
A car was destroyed in a massive explosion, and a leading HAMAS operative, Hamza Muhareb, was killed. (IDF said it was not involved; Palestinians say IAF warplanes targeted the vehicle).

Abu Obeida, spokesman for Hamas’ military wing. "We are well prepared and Allah willing, we are not going to welcome them with flowers."

This is Operation "Free Gilad" and my best wishes go out to the IDF troops who are now in combat. May you succeed and come home safely.
(actually, the invasion mission code-name has not been announced publicly)

Oh crap.

I hope as few as possible people die during this.

And to think, this day started with hopes for a better future in the Middle East, and now it looks like it all goes down the drain.

Ah. Hamas says a Hamas guy was killed. His car blew up and they are saying the Israelis did it.

Link.

The problem with using car bombs is when you say a car blew up with one of your guys in it and the Israelis did it, there's room for doubt.

How so? What happened today that offered 'hopes' for a better future? What did I miss?

Maybe he was driving a Pinto?

Hard to believe Gaza became a 100% jew/settlement free zone™ nearly a year ago and so far nothing has changed in regard to the Qassam rockets launched at Israel every single day, the militancy of the Palestinian terror groups and the total inaction of the PA to do something about it.

A lesson in reality and not useful idiot/liberal propoganda.

TCS -- I can actually hear Jerome Horowitz (pictured, center, in your avatar) saying that WooHOO!

Hey, if a guy is going to blow himself up with a car bomb, why not aim it at a military tank instead of a civilian bus or restaurant?

Just wonderin' aloud.

NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon is getting married again!

Sorry, probably not the right thread for a joke, this is serious stuff. I hope they are able to rescue Gilad, but starting an offensive may mean they believe he is already dead. Perhaps they will start targeting Hamas leaders now, as they should IMO. Starting w/ Layla.

Or it may have just been transporting explosives for some other purpose. So many possibilities.

Cos' he's a terrorist

not a soldier. Terrorists prefer things that can't fight back because they are cowardly, miserable parent rule8ing slime. But that's just my opinion. It's possible they are allahs' trule8ds

More dead Arabs! Yay!
They could choose not to dig 800 meter tunnels into Israel for terror attacks with malice aforethought - cuz 800 meter tunnels take weeks to dig. But they did didn't did they Cleon....and now they reap the just rewards of such acts.

It will be regrettable, nobody is saying "YAY" ---

WooHoo! means that we are glad to see the IDF taking action against the networks of terrorists that are acting unlawfully and with malice aforethought. They need to be dismantled.
This might do it.

Not according to the information I have seen.

The Palestinians have passed along news to Israel of his injuries, saying he had been shot in the stomach and shoulder, and is being 'treated' for those wounds.

This news came out in a briefing earlier today (Tuesday) to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, as a Military Intelligence officer told lawmakers that the abducted soldier sustained light wounds to his stomach and shoulder.

ETA ---
Early Wednesday, IAF planes hit a power station, cutting power to much of Gaza City.

Darkness reigns.

WooHoo! is just another word for "YAY"
I fixed your post.

This is not a matter of 'rooting' or 'cheering' for the IDF to kill innocent people.
Cleon, I think that is a fairly obnoxious thing for you to claim.

For the record:
  • As IDF troops continued to move along the Gaza border, Olmert said that this IDF operation will target terror groups, not innocent civilians. "The action won't be intended to harm the civilian population, but to carry out the central goal - to bring our son Gilad back home," the prime minister said.

Meanwhile, the government said it would target top Hamas leaders if Shalit was not freed.
