Islamic terrorist attack in Bangladesh

Cafe owner says about 20 hostages. Maybe 6-8 attackers inside. Ongoing gunfight with cops. At least one cop is dead. Attackers also tossing grenades.
 
According to MSNBC, all Americans working in a diplomatic context are accounted for and safe.

The terrorists appear to have one western hostage.
 
ISIS claiming responsibility. Two cops dead, forty people injured. Still going on. Cops trying to negotiate peaceful end. How can that happen with ISIS maniacs?
 
If I understand correctly, the Bangladeshi police force is not really equipped and trained well for all of this. I wonder if we will see western help with this. Surely India/China have forces that could be brought to bear quickly?

ETA: I know India and China are not "western." I spliced two thoughts together.
 
Good afternoon. ISIL is claiming that 20 have been killed but that can not be confirmed at the moment.
 
Cops are bringing armored vehicles and will storm the place. They can't wait around.
 
ISIS doesn't usually take hostages. Can't imagine what those people are going through. Hope they mount a successful rescue operation.
 
Reports of at least 20 hostages killed by the attackers. ISIS itself has released photos from inside the cafe and sources have said these are authentic. There never were any demands and these may not have been hostages per se and instead were gathered to be killed - possibly with swords. ISIS photos show piles of bodies and much blood.
 
According to Al Jazeera, ISIS reported 24 killed but Bangladeshi police denied that. Six gunmen killed, 1 arrested per Bangladeshi PM.
 
20 people killed with edged weapons inside the cafe. There is an evil brilliance to that because they were silent deaths and the cops outside never knew it was happening. Had the cops heard gunshots inside they probably would have stormed immediately. But they waited more than 10 hours because they proceeded as if it were a classic hostage situation where the attackers create demands and use the hostages as bargaining chips. This was nothing like that at all.

The attackers did not kill anyone who could recite the Koran. They didn't want to kill any Muslims. They killed the non-Muslims with their swords and/or knives that were inside the cafe.

The ISIS attackers had smartphones and took photos of the carnage inside the cafe and sent that to the ISIS media headquarters who put the pictures out for the world to see. The body count announced by ISIS before the cafe was stormed seems to have been accurate. Why wouldn't it? The killers were counting their victims. ISIS told the world how many were dead before the cops got their chance to count them.
