Is there a skeptics events website?

After TAM3 I was thinking... I met a lot of smart people from small groups that felt largely alone in the world... that is, they didn't know of other skeptical organizations in their area.

My question is this: Is there a 'registry' of such groups? A place to announce meetings, events and websites?

If not, I'd be willing to build one. Anyone interested?

I maintain a list of skeptic groups on SkepticReport:

Skeptic Groups

I've toyed with the idea of a calendar myself, but perhaps this forum would be the best choice? It is, by any standards, the place for skeptics worldwide to meet anyway... ;)

A hand coded website even... very nice.

Thanks. But, no, it's not quite hand coded...

The templates are hand coded. The rest? Ah, the power of computing... ;)

LA area has a healthy Skeptic presence. We announce events in this thread

http://www.internationalskeptics.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34266&perpage=40&pagenumber=2

Also see http://skeptic.com/ and http://www.cfiwest.org/

If you would like to join, PM me, Wyvern or Electric Monk, we tend to get together relatively frequently.

Renata. Dearest.

LA is in California. The Center of Woowooism.

Care to rephrase that one? :)

TAM3 has ruined me. I never realized large groups of people existed where I found myself enjoying speaking with...well...everyone. It's like eating hardtack for years, and then dining at a restaurant with a variety of wonderful and exciting dishes from around the world.

This past week, I have been delving for skeptic organizations in Tucson, AZ.

I did find one group online with six people who had signed up, but only the group leader has signed in within the past month.

And then I ran across the rest of the Tucson groups listing, and found a group for people who think they are vampires.

78 members.

Reminds me of the line from The Lost Boys:

"Something I never could stomach about Santa Carla: All the damn vampires!"

Wow.

I've sortta never really believed the talk I've now been hearing for years from American posters about the lack of common sense people they've had to talk to in their area. It just seemed like they must surely be exagerating, for effect.

I think your post broke the camel's back.

Unbelievable.

Thanks.

It looks like your site is written w/CGI, and I am pretty decent w/that. I dunno your level of tech skill, but if you want to look into that calendar thing and need a hand, feel free to let me know!

Yeah, I'm luckily close to CalTech, and attend the Skeptics Society meetings almost every month.

I am a tad wary about these kind of groups... my fear is that some degenerate into a 'mock the believers' festival, and I'm not interested in that, y'know?

Do you go to Skeptic after dinner lectures?

I have yet to see mock the believer themes in Skeptic gatherings. Usually some of us from the board gather for lunch before the lectures and then go to Skeptic dinner with Shermer's group after. Next time you decide to go on a lecture, look us up if you want.

Usually I do, yeah. I'll drop ya a line before the next lecture!

Then I must have seen you :) The dinner group is pretty small. Next time, introduce yourself to the loud group...likely to be us. Where did you sit last Sunday?

Renata Last sunday I actually couldn't attend (a bummer, I've seen the speaker before and he looked interesting). I'm a big guy, late 20's, w/goatee.

I'm also a big guy, late 20's, with a goatee. But Renata already knows that!

By the way, Montana is MT, not MO. MO = Missouri.
