Yes. Dubya's clay feet were fundamentalism and pretty cavalier disregard for things not fitting his priorities. Palin's flaws are fundamentalism and ignorance.
 
No. GWB achieved his position (and escaped all his failures) because of his rich, powerful family. Whatever Palin's failures are, she made it pretty much on her own.
 
Wow, this is a tough one. Both GreNME and Tricky have good points. I'll have to think about this one for a bit.:)

This is like saying that because a starlet "made it on her own," she's a better actor than someone who comes from a show-biz family. That might generally be the case, but we're talking about a particular comparison.

Monarchs inherit their positions, but they are not invariably stupider than democratically elected leaders. It's true that Bush led an insanely privileged life, but Palin's prominence is owed to her looks, stupidity and, let's face it, an insanely lucky break. If McCain had not exercised poor judgment, I don't think she ever would have risen to national prominence. That's dumb luck.

From her appearances, she appears even dumber than Bush.
 
I voted no. I'm not going off of either's public performance, however, but my gut feeling of how much control they have OVER the stupid act. They both know Joe America wants politicians about as imbecilic as he is.

With GWB it felt largely genuine - he wasn't as knuckleheaded as widely thought, but at least partly homegrown stupid. With Palin, to me, it seems more calculated. Bush was just a bit too dumb to play dumb real well. Palin's better, so likely smarter.

Then again, I don't follow all the news and stuff, so I might be wrong.

ETA: What Tricky says too. I don't like her, but she brained her way where she is. Bush, eh, he kept up better than credited, but that's it.

I went with yes. Bush seemed to have some (possibly subliminal) realisation that he actually wasn't very bright, and had strategies for concealing this and working round it.

Palin has no such realisation. She's full-on.

If I found liquid effluent of a disgusting nature in a boot, I would hand it to the Shrub and give him written instructions to get it out with some hope of success.

He's thick as a brick, but he can follow his handlers' instructions pretty well if he can avoid being caught trying to ad lib. He has, wisely, avoided addressing political subjects at any length outside of a controlled environment since he left office.

I get the impression that, given three hours to reherse a five minute speech, you might get three minutes of comprehensible oration from the Artic MILF. And does she shut her pie hole when she realizes it is getting her in trouble with the few remaining rational Republicants?

I think it is more that Bush didn't think about things, but depended on his ideology to decide what to do, while Palin can't think about things with any great depth.
