Is Jesus to blame for Virginia Tech?

While reading about Virginia Tech on wikipedia, I came across this particular excerpt:

(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cho_Seung-hui#Contents)

"You have vandalized my heart, raped my soul and torched my conscience. You thought it was one pathetic boy’s life you were extinguishing. Thanks to you, I die like Jesus Christ, to inspire generations of the weak and the defenseless people."

Wiki doesn't say if he was actually a Christian or not. Does anyone know?

No. Mental illness is to blame for the Virginia Tech tragedy.

The Jesus Christ reference is the rationalization of a deluded mind.

Demonstrates little beyond a wish to be seen as a martyr. If he was a Christian, he was a pretty terrible one.

it was suggested to me that any 'believer' who posted consistently to a sceptic's forum was a suitable case for treatment.

No, not exactly. Seems to me that the "weak and defenseless people" he refers to are the social outcasts such as himself. Due to his anger at being mocked all his life, he came to see his tormentors (whether real or imagined) and himself locked in an epic struggle that transcended ordinary social constructs. What most people see as preppy kids antagonizing nerds, Cho saw it as nothing less than the cosmic struggle between demonic oppression and righteous retribution, with himself as "holy warrior" of sorts. You can draw all sorts of screwed up metaphors, and he picked Jesus because it's a reference that most people will get. Ultimately, madness finds its own reasons.

So no, I don't think "Jesus is to blame". If he left an explicitly religious manifesto behind, walked into Norris Hall and started shouting the Lord's Prayer while he opened fire, I'd be keen to change my mind. He wasn't anything resembling an Islamist suicide bomber, just for the sake of comparison. He was just a nut who was, sadly, a really good shot.

Even if there was a real Jebus as given in one of some number of somewhat contradictory versions in the bibbul, it would not be his fault - oh, wait a minute, then it would be his fault because if he was real and part of Dog and Dog did not stop the rectum from what he did then it is his fault. He gets off the hook only because he does not exist.

I say we go ahead and blame it on Jesus. Sheesh, that guy's always taking credit for everything...

Oh, I don't know. He (Jesus) seemed a pretty decent bloke to me. I'd've bought him a beer, I reckon.

It's the morons who follow leaders, instead of watching parking meters who are to blame for all the world's ills, especially the Fox news network.
