MPs also criticised Mr Ahmadinejad's role in the UN Security Council dispute over Iran's nuclear program amid growing evidence that the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered him to stay silent on the issue.
Ayatollah Khamenei, who was hitherto loyal to the President, is said to blame Mr Ahmadinejad for last month's UN resolution imposing sanctions over Iran's refusal to suspend its uranium enrichment. Ayatollah Khamenei is rumoured to be so disillusioned with Mr Ahmadinejad's performance that he has refused to meet him on occasion.

If it's true, it's a good sign that a peaceful resolution could be possible. Also, that it's worth trying the peaceful route first.

Call me a pessimist, but my definition of "sanctions working" is "Iran stops Uranium Enrichment", not "Iran speeds up Uranium enrichment while it's leaders squabble".

But hey, that's just me.
