Iran Navy to Patrol US Borders

In response to the US Navy presence in the gulf Iran has decided to send their ships to approach the US maritime borders.

Try as I might I can't take this seriously. It's like a mouse slapping a cat and saying "Let's see how you like it!"

Was the "patrol" deliberately misleading?

As for the targets, I mean Iranian ships, they can read Jane's as well as the next person, so they know they're alive anywhere on the planet only with our permission.

Terrifying. Absolutely terrifying. I'm sure the fleet will hide in its ports until it goes away.

I would think the logistics of maintaining a presence off the U.S. coast would be rather taxing on the Iranian fleet. Depending on the number and size of the vessels deployed they could need an extensive supply chain or friendly bases to resupply at.

Actually Yes. I figured I'd get a few more views.

I have decided the proper response is to send boatloads of naked people to have sex in every conceivable way in full view of the ships. I wonder how long the Iranians would stick around with a train of pervert boats following them everywhere.

The Iranian Navy currently operates 6 frigates. None of which comes close to the size or capability of the US Navies 15 FFG's. And then there are our 84 DDG's and CG's. And 10 nuclear powered aircraft carriers that are significantly larger than any other carrier in the world, and 9 amphibious assault ships which are essentially smaller aircraft carriers with a well deck. Oh and also 54 attack submarines and 18 boomers. I'm sure the US Navy brass are worried sick over the Iranian Navy.

Actually, it seems the US Navy needs just to have a couple of the larger units steam by at full speed, line astern, and the wake will probably capsize the Iranians, no shots fired.

Well, the bad thing is that such silliness even exists.

If I were in charge I'd just have the largest available ships periodically pull up alongside and offer the Iranian sailors snacks. You know, rub it in how outclasses they are and how unimpressed we are.

"To Iranian vessel, this is United States vessel. Do you require assistance?"
"United States vessel, this is Iranian vessel. We do not require assistance at this time."
"Iranian vessel, this is United States vessel. So your ship is supposed to look like that?"

I'd think the Iranians would have made arrangements for a few friendly ports. Cuba seems likely. Surely there are some South American countries that would also have them.

I guess they could take shore leave and visit Sea World and Disneyland. Sort of a field trip to expose our decadence.

Venezuela if anywhere. But I'd wager they limp as close to our coast as they can, stay a day or two, limp back, and brag about it for years.

^^ This ^^

To be honest, I think it's probably worth bragging about. Having a system of naval operations capable of deploying a vessel on a long-range cruise is no mean feat. It is a notably first-world privilege to have navies of such size and power that we are able to take such a thing for granted. And apparently even the US Navy has ships that cannot deploy across the Gulf of Mexico without breaking down.

Can the Iranian navy go toe to toe with the US navy, at home or abroad? Probably not. Is it still a feat worth boasting about, to deploy a naval vessel from Iran to US territorial waters? I think so.

I give 'em props for that as well. And it's just a statement, let 'em do it. Maybe the crews are enjoying it too, bit of scenery change.

But... has the question of "Can they supply them?" been decided? :D
