Maybe a new consolidated thread now that the even is over, and the new phone and OS are out ?

ETA: Update 2: Apple has pulled the 8.0.1 update. Affected iPhone 6 users are allegedly being told by Apple support to try restoring their phones with iTunes.

Apple has commented on the ongoing complaints about the iPhone 6 Plus bending in user pockets, telling CNBC that the new iPhones include steel/titanium inserts to reinforce stress locations and that they use the "strongest glass in the industry."

The company went on to say that only nine customers had complained about bent iPhones, suggesting the issue is not as widespread as it has appeared in the media. It also stated that both the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have met or exceeded testing for strength and durability, and that bending in the iPhone 6 Plus during normal use is "extremely rare."
 
Apple Stock took a hit big enough to have a ripple effect that sent the whole market down.
I suspect the patch fiasco had more to do with this then Bendgate.
 
On the NewsHour tonight they said that today's market fall was triggered by a 4% (IIRC) drop in Apple stock due to the bad patch. My first thought was, this once again confirms it, the stock market is completely irrational.

Or it could have been in response to Cook selling $35 million worth of shares
 
FYI: Apple has released iOS 8.0.2. So far, this seems to be run fine, and does not show any of the bugs in 8.0.1.

That was quick work releasing a fix.

One thing that one cannot tell is how much of a problem it really was. Rule #1: You cannot tell the number of affected users or devices from internet forums.

Especially since there seem to be people who like to bemoan Apple publicly instead of contacting Apple in case of problems.

(That said, releasing an update that kills cell phone connection on a device that's sold as a phone is really FUBAR.)

I've done the 8.0.2 update, and my phone is still cranky with 3rd party keyboards like Swiftkey. Sometimes the keyboard disappears. On at least one occasion, the keyboard was there but the phone won't acknowledge any inputs. Will work with a reset in settings.
 
The 8.0.2 update fixed it for me, though it still sucks compared to the Android version. When I go into iMessage (for example) the keyboard covers existing content so I have to scroll up, while that doesn't happen for the Apple ones. SwiftKey claims that that's an iOS issue not their issue. Plus it doesn't have the press and hold alternatives of either the Apple keyboards (for extended characters) or the Android one (so I can enter some special characters or numbers without switching keyboards). Hopefully that's something they can add as they go and isn't a limit of the API.

(Anyone seen the new Note 4 commercial? They go after Apple pretty hard, claiming Apple is always 2 years behind the Note...)

Where do I begin? None of the Apps I use most is comfortable on the platform. Facebook doesn't work properly anymore, I now find I can only cut and paste so long as I don't mind always pasting the same *********** thing (i.e. the clipboard is stuck and seems to want to paste something I have never copied to it).

The whole thing has a scratchy, jerky, slow feel. Basically, it sucks and what I want to know is why the mutton heads don't test this crap in the factory rather than using us to do it.

You are angry apple didn't test the facebook app ?

*shrugs* I have iOS 8 on a retina ipad and ipad mini. I've not noticed the problems.

Are you on an ipad2 ? That might explain some of it ... the ipad2 is getting a old at this point, and I imagine iOS may not be so great on it.

Yes, iPad2. I have just downloaded 8.0.2 and early indications are good. Not so scratchy or fragile any more.

FB is probably one of the most popular apps I should think so, yes, why not test that one before release?
 
I've jusst got an iPhone 4, and got the notification that 8.0.2 was available..... But I can't install it.... Says it requires 4.7 Gb of storage... Hell, the phone itself only has 6....
I'd have to remove virtually all my apps to install the thing.

Same for the iPad... I've only got about 1 gig of storage available.

Upgrade via iTunes - that does not have the same requirements as on device.

And don't upgrade the 4(s) (I assume - I don't think the 4 is upgradeable) - from what I hear you may not be happy with that on your device.

That's what I've read too-- I'm not going to upgrade.

So… anyone know how to turn off the upgrade reminder (that red '1' on Settings)?

While I'm glad they did those tests, I don't think it mimics the actual problem as closely as it could. I don't know the internal reinforcing plates on each of those phones, but on all the pictures and complaints I've seen on the iPhone 6Plus have the bend high on the phone, well above the middle. Heck, it's even above the three-quarter mark. That makes me think that it's simply a bad spot in the design where significantly less pressure deforms the aluminum structure without being mitigated by the reinforcing plates. Couple this with a consumer base that's been conditioned towards smaller phones suddenly getting a much, much larger one, and still having small phone habits, and it can be an issue.

My first thought was, 'who rocks a caseless iPhone?' They've always needed cases, even if just small ones. I can't think of a mainline phone that doesn't need one for the vast majority of people.
