Here's a couple of tips: take time to spell out what paranormal, occult or supernatural ability or event will be tested, and how you propose to test it. The JREF reportedly spends considerable time trying to get claimants to specify what they claim will happen and under what conditions.
In other words, don't expect the JREF to tell you what to do. You tell the JREF what you can do and how you can demonstrate it.
Here's a second tip, related to the first: you have the burden of proof. It is not up to the JREF to show that you are wrong. You have to show that you are right.
As I have said on this forum (and as Penn Jillette has said, on his Showtime program), if I had an ability that qualified for the award, I'd be first in line to do the test AND I would have no trouble whatsoever meeting the requirement of specifying what I can do and under what conditions. This is not a tough thing to do.
A third tip: don't engage in posturing or excuse-making before any test. Talk is cheap. Rather, go right out there, low-key, and set up a testing protocol that's fair. Then prove your claim according to the agreed-upon protocol. Then, once you have the the JREF's million bucks in your pocket, brag loudly about it, do the talk show circuit, and rub Randi's nose in it!!
