In true Richard G style......

They were obviously killed because they had no guns.

................waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait.........

According to that link 7 officers have been killed in Birmingham since June 2003, all killed by gunfire.

In the UK, according to a very quick search I have just done, 8 officers have been killed since 2000; 18 in the years 1990-99 and 30 in the years1980-1989.

It may be worth pointing out that one of those was killed by a yank.

it may also be worth pointing out that he was the only officer killed by gunfire since the 1997 Firearms Amendment act....

Anyway back to Richard G's style.....blah blah your all loonies.....just how violent are you people blah blah.........

Sorry Nikk but I dont see those figures. Am I missing something?

I can see 5 dead since 1998 and one of those was in a bombing? Is there another link there??

edited to add - Do you mean in the text? I was just looking at the table that was presented....

This is the source of my figures for the UK.

It's a BBC link from December 2003 which gives the UK figures for police deaths since 1980.

As regards the figures for Birmingham in the US I realise on rereading the link that I made a mistake as the 7 deaths in the last year were for Alabama as a whole not for Birmingham alone. The related article " Deaths show dangers police face" states .....

......"While Thursday's shootings may be the worst in Birmingham's history, this is the third multiple-officer homicide in Alabama in less than two years. All the shootings involved on-duty police officers. ............." . The article talks about earlier incidents involving 4 officers and thus gives me my total of 7 when the latest shooting is included. Sorry about the error. Hope it's right now.:)

Hi, guys. Dick can't come to the forum right now - he's digging a hole in his basement in preperation for the Big Gubmint Clampdown - but I'm in telepathic contact with him now. I can read his mind quite clearly, and can post on his behalf.

Sorry, the transmission is a little garbled, for some reason.

I'm pretty sure Richard G doesn't know how to make replies to preexisting topics.

Anyway, I think Richard G might say something more along the lines of...

"And this only shows that cops are incompetent, and if people want to defend themselves, they need to take things into their own hands."

The cops were killed, so what? That's the just reward for being an agent of tyranny. In this case, the guns served their purpose well.

Did the cops who died at the WTC get there "just reward" too Tony?

I mean, if your an "agent of tyranny" who cares who kills them right?

Sounds like a typical week here in Dallas. Last Friday, one cop was killed and another was seriously injured by a hand-gun toting civilian.

I'll never understand why we need hand guns. I'm all for hunting (but not assault rifles), but a handgun is just a portable, hidable, instrument of death.

Absolutely! There's a great deal to be said for pro-active self defence.

This is to say you shoot people who are going to shoot you before they even know that they intend to shoot you.

Ah but what about those places where carrying a concealed weapon is legal?

The only way to conceal a rifle is to stick it down your trousers!

To misquote Mae West "Is that a rifle in your trousers or are you glad to see me?"

Texas has these cute signs all over the place. "Handguns are prohibited by penalty of blah blah blah..." They are posted in bars, outside of hospitals, and most government buldings. I asked an acquaintance in Houston once, while drinking in a pub, "where do the people keep their handguns then?" His reply, "in their car". I've read many cases of people shooting at each other on the freeways, presumably due to some driver pissing off the other driver. Isn't this a great reason to own a gun? Someone cuts you off and you pop a cap into their vehicle.

I can understand that. I've sometimes felt like doing the same thing, i.e. shooting another driver, and maybe sometimes someone has felt like shooting me.;)

I can also understand that when there are enough guns in circulation perfectly law abiding people are too sh#t scared to give up their weapons because they are frightened of everybody else hanging on to their own guns.

Who decides? When is it right to kill a cop and when is it wrong?

Everyone has to decide for themselves.

This wouldn't be a problem if the police paradigm were substantially reformed. As it is now, we have a quasi-police state.

You'll never understand because you don't want to understand, you are content in your bigotry.
