Hm. Interesting. From one who sees most of it as carp, how does one distinguish Christians from these new-age Christians?billiefan2000 said:Upchurch,I brought it up,cause it makes a good point about how Christians (many Christians) would rather believe in some New-Age crap like the Prosperity Message, but yet have the nerve to call themselves Christians.

Christians are quick to attack New age practices, but so many are caught up in the same hocus pocus. After all, Word of Faith movement was stolen out of shamanism.![]()

I enjoyed reading the article. Thanks for posting it. I am so fed up with the "Prosperity" message and the "Word of Faith" movement. It has infected Christianity like a plague.
I won't even watch TBN. It just makes me sick what Benny Hinn does to get money. I wish Amazing Randi could expose him somehow like he did Peter Poppoff. What scares me is the strong possibility that Hinn really thinks he's some great healing prophet of God...... as opposed to him purposely being fake.

If Randi, et al, were to take on one set of religious dogma, they would have to take on all religious dogma. I suspect that you would be less enthusiastic about that.billiefan2000 said:
I wish Randi and other Skeptics Groups would take on guys like Joel Osteen and Rod Parsley and Benny Hinn which is what makes mad at some Fellow Christians:

I'm convinced that MOST preachers actually know they are peddling manure. (But I'm sure they see it as a worthwhile and goodly effort) They *HAVE* to read the bible to pick and chose the verses they present to the congregation. (Since most christians don't read the bible). Surely after reading the bible most of them see through it. A few brave ones like Dan Barker, come out and expose the lie.

These 3 and others are allowed to get away with their greed and false teachings, but:
If Franklin Graham calls ISLAM a Evil Religion, the Benny Hinn's in the Christian Community will condemn him for saying that.

Nope, only a few...small few...see through it. My Pastor talked to our church about manipulation tactics that many preachers use. My Pastor NEVER asks us for money. He's one in a million!
Anyhow, he talked about all the ways preachers will try to get money out of their congregations, and then, in the middle of speaking on it, he said (paraphrasing)"You know, I must admit to you, we are in dire need of $5000 right now..in this church.....I believe that God is asking for one of you to write a check for that amount right this minute.........whoever it is, will you stand up?" During this speech, some of our congregants were going "oh yes Lord"....Then, one of our co-pastors stood up ready to write a check and some of the congregation where saying out loud "praise God".
At that moment, my Pastor threw his pen in the air and said to all of us "You've just been had!!!". He said that the only way to get it through to us how easily Christians are manipulated to give money, was to show us. He had set the whole thing up beforehand with his co-Pastor.
I was one of the few who knew he was pulling one over on everyone. My hubby knew too, but was impressed by how my Pastor made it seem very believable.
What killed me was that he pulled this little show right in the middle of telling his congregation how preachers do certain types of manipulations to get money. So, even while being told and warned about it, people can still be duped.
My hubby produces our church services for the local TV station here, and he made sure that service got on TV. I just know it shook up a lot of local Pastors...but my Pastor always does that. He is a unique man and not afraid to speak out about a lot of religious nonsense. He gets lots of nasty mail..unfortunately. It does not bother him. He is the warmest, kindest most accepting man I know...and that's saying a lot for a Pastor.

I have made many a Christian mad (on message boards and forums) by stating that Benny Hinn is a false Prophet. I've even been warned...like God will strike me for speaking out against Benny Hinn!!![]()
