Hey guys I'm new here so I guess I should introduce myself.

Age/sex: 23/male

Location: New Jersey, USA

Occupation: Chemist (bout a year and half into the career, hopefully going to law school next year)

Hobbies: Martial Arts, getting angry at stupid people, watching religious shows on TV for a good laugh (I CAN'T be the only one who does that).

I have been pretty skeptical most of my life (I broke my mom's heart by telling her that Santa didn't exist when I was young) but it didn't become important to me until last year when I started reading books by Shermer, Dawkins and others.

Also, I plan on going to TAM3 and I will bring my equally skeptical girlfriend. I would like some idea on what exactly what to expect. Was it worth the $$$?

I am REALLY bad with type-o's so have pity.

I've been to TAM1 and TAM2. They were definitely worth the money.

The speakers are great, but the real fun is after hours when you get to socialize with fellow skeptics. And where else will you get to meet the people that wrote those books you started reading last year? (Bring them so you can get them signed.)

I think you'll enjoy TAM3 so much you'll start counting down the days until TAM4 as soon as you return home!

Oh, yes. I went to both TAM1 and 2, and it was most certainly worth it. Meeting Randi, Shermer, Plait, Andrus, Swiss, people from this forum. People came from all over the world, too.

There's way too little time, and too much to do, though.

I'm bad with Jello, so....

I'm only six, and I'll probably be there. Also, Claus is 182, and he's going.

Hope that helps!

Welcome to the forum.

Bring the books? I don't know...I don't wanna be a fanboy or bother our guests.

Oh, a lot of people bring their books, it's quite alright. I brought several of Randi's and Shermer's and Plait's, too, and they were all more than happy to sign them. You can also buy books, magazines, stuff, or just browse through them.

The magician Jerry Andrus is always interested in explaining his very weird optical illusions, and he loves an audience, whether it is 50 or just you. You also get to play with them. Jamy Ian Swiss will undoubtedly fool us again, up close and personal.

You'll find the atmosphere very relaxed: If you want to talk to someone, just do it. Yes, that goes for Randi, Shermer, etc., too. Go say hi!

Everybody mingles, it's that kind of community! :)

Beg your pardon, but it´s "hobbitses". :)

What´s so bad about being a fanboy ;)

I got my copy "Flim Flam!" signed by Mr. Randi (who else, since it´s his book? :)) last year. I narrowly missed Phil Plait so I´m bringing "Bad Astronomy" this year to have it signed, and I´ll bring a copy of one of Fred Pohl´s novels for the same reason.

What's the general age range of TAM3?

Ray Beiersdorfer (hey, at least I know how to pronounce that! :)) brought his twin daughters, who were 12 or 13 I guess. Mr Randi must be about 70. Between these extremes there was the usual Bell curve distribution. Most people were in their 30s or 40s, but there was a bunch about our age (I´m not that much older than you, KingMen00) of maybe 20 or 25 people. You´ll meet many of them here - Exarch, deBergerac, me, Renata, Luciana, Sparklecat, MoeFaux, Kitten (wasn´t there last time but will be there this time)

Welcome to the forum!

Having been to all three TAMs, I have to say that they have all been worth every penny. I consider it a vacation! It's refreshing to be in a room full of intelligent individuals. More than that, it's really exciting to mingle with like-minded people after hours, as well.

At the first TAM, it was incredible to meet Randi and the other "luminaries" of the skeptics. But, I found that the real value for me was in meeting the people from the forum. So, now, my primary reason for going is to meet the community in one place.

Oh, don't forget to have your girlfriend attend the Skepchicks PJ party! We can never have too many skepchicks in one room in pajamas! :D

We will also have the traditional forum party and The infamous Chocolate Challenge! :D

Please peruse the threads for more details. All of the plans should be solidified a couple of weeks prior to the event.

I defer to your intimate knowledge. :)

Ah...the wisdom of old age is finally kicking in, I guess?

Has your aim improved?

Do you want to risk it? :)

Help me out here...chocolate? Sounds illegal everywhere BUT vegas.

Exporting Belgian chocolate violates about a dozen different non-proliferation treaties and virtually every environmental protection law. :D (Eat that, Exarch!)
