Identifying a Childrens book I read

Hi all, I've possibly asked this question before, but if so it was a long time ago and doesn't show up in search.

As a child I read or was read a book, that I can't remember the title to. I would have been quite young, under 8, and it would have been in the 80's.

It had something to do with ghosts and the last tree in the world, the wood from this tree was harmful to the ghosts somehow I think. it was an adventure about a child tasked to find the "last tree". I think Glass was involved somehow but I don't really remember.

Does this ring any bells for anyone? It's killing me not being able to place it. ;-)

I think it may be Rebecca's World, Journey to the Forbidden Planet.

I think you may have found it thanks, I can't find a full synopsis on the web but what I have found sounds about right. Looks like I might have mixed a few things up, but I do remember the man with the most painful feet in the universe!
