at the end of day, if DSK has sex with a prostitute.. isnt that in itself a crime?

im worried about a double standard over a regular joe soliciting a prostitute. if you pick up a street hooker "offering sex" you will be arrested.

DSK clearly knew the women was hooker when he had sex with her

Just so you know; offering money for sex ( where prostitution is illegal ) is against the law. Having sex with a prostitute is not against the law ,,,
 
He did not necessarily commit that crime (not that it should be a crime... adults should be able to consensually decide their sexual choices). He only 'solicited a prostitute' if he offered to pay money for sex. If they had sex then she hit him up he did not solicit.
 
Anyone else upset that Ben Stein turned out to be more right than those of us that jumped on the vilification bandwagon? *********** sucks.

1. Is prostitution illegal where this happened? It isn't illegal everywhere you know.

2. As already pointed out, having sex with a prostitute is no more relevant than having sex with a meter maid/office worker/etc if no money changed hands (prostitutes can and do have boyfriends, husbands, wives, one-night-stands etc). Is there evidence that he paid her for sex? Keep in mind that this is only relevant once question 1 is answered.
 
Laws against prostitution are outrageous in the first place so I couldn't care less if he solicited a prostitute and isn't prosecuted. In fact, if I was on the jury, I would refuse to convict even if I was positive that he did it.

Applause. I would only add that if I were on a jury with prostitute on trial, I would refuse to convict too.

Assuming of course she was charges only with prostitution, as opposed to blackmail and false rape accusations.

In NY, patronizing a prostitute over the age of consent is a class A misdemeanor with a fine of up to $1000, and up to 1 year in jail. Both however, are up to the discretion of the judge, and it seems highly unlikely that any jail time would be involved.

Eliot Spitzer didn't go to jail for patronizing a prostitute either, and there would be a hell of a lot more reason to give him jail time than DSK. He was a repeat offender with a regular arrangement, and the one man in NY who should have known better than anyone.

So in practice, we're talking about a $1000 fine maximum and one awkward day in court, unless for some weird reason he wanted to fight the charge. Not even a bump in the road for DSK, so I don't really care either way.

But only if the money is in the form of cash and/or if a set price is established before the act. If you just buy for her dinner and a few drinks, buy her flowers, etc then it usually becomes legal.
 
DKS really thought this woman was going to have sex with him for nothing in return? She just found this old fart so sexy and attractive?
