What other form of anti-gay hate is there? Aside from the odd high schooler declaring it's just "not right", and promptly going off to look at hot lesbian pr0n, there are no anti-gay secular arguments that I can think of.
....a list of groups legally protected from incitement of hatred and genocide.

Conviction carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison.

One would hope that those who actually commit an act of genocide`, might get a bit more than five years...

Yes, the parenthetical (sexually) that wasn't even in the bible made me wretch as well.

At least it is one of the few depictions of Lot that include him offering his daughters up to a group of rapeists. Most others tend to gloss over that little bit.

My first thought was "what sort of father..."

I'd say it was a reflection of the sexual mores of the author (both Chick and the bible) more than anything else. Very disturbing.

Edited for syntax

More mysogny in the story of Lot.

Just a few sentences later, Mrs. Lot looks back to see the cities being destroyed and is immediately killed by God. She is turned into a pillar of salt - just for looking back as God destroyed her home and city.

That's nice.

Ummm, to get back to the original subject (although I have to agree that Chick tract was appalling) why does this bill have to specify groups? The law should be a blanket one - surely incitement to hate and violence should be a criminal offence no matter who it is against and what it is for.

I hate to find myself siding with the bible thumpers on this one but I worry that it could be used to suppress the right of people to express their religion too. Though I find the attitude expressed toward gays by many religious groups to be disgusting, I also feel they have every right to say what they want. If it actually carries over into action, that is a different story and I am sure Canada already has laws to deal with that situation.

This whole thing illustrates my whole problem with any sort of 'Hate Crime' or 'Hate Speech' laws. They open themselves to all manner of abuse.

I agree with Nyar....blah blah blah.

I frankly don't think "Inciting" anything should be a crime. You can advocate any hideous or horrible thing you want with words, pamphlets, letters, signs, who cares. I'm annoyed that advocating the violent overthrow of the government is a crime.

It's the actions that matter.

I think saying you hate someone because they're gay makes you a jerk not a criminal.

Punching someone because they're gay makes you a criminal....just like if you punched anyone, for any reason.

I'm personally not big on hate crime legislation.

Oh yeah, the whole thing about "inciting.." If I tell peopl to riot...and they riot, as long as I'm not looting, burning, or throwing rocks...I should be in the clear frankly. Just because those dumbasses actually decided to follow my advice makes them idiots, and criminals...not me.

Would YOU jump off a bridge just because someone told you to?
