I really want to do something. But How?

Today I found that my mother's friend, is friends with a so called quantum healer. She also does readings, seminars on relationships through "energy". Just about the whole sha-bang of fraudulent claims. She has a web page but I'll disclose that for now. I'd really like to somehow do something, being she is literally a rock's throw away due to my peers. I did send a short message and the IIGWest challenge, which of course assists the JREF. None the less I really feel I can do more to somehow, but for lack of a better term I may be "wishful thinking".

I'm reminded of Emily Rosa, and though so young, really did her part. That over bearing feeling do something is perplexing me though. I've been a skeptic all my life and I'm also a magician that has followed the likes of Randi and others all my life. As to say I'm a bit beyond the normal laymen that couldn't conduct a proper test etc.

Could you please rephrase that in a more coherent manner?
For example:
1. What is your name?
2. What is your quest?
3 What is the third question?

I think it's clear enough: He knows someone spouting woo. He wants to know what he can do to stop it.

The only advice I can have, is to strike up a conversation, every now and then. Don't act all negative, but toss the occasional good, hard question her way. Sometimes, if you "ping" them, the right way, they will figure out their life is a lie, "all by themselves"!

Did you read that closely? There are incoherent bits in there. I get distracted by that sort of noise.

Wowbagger I feel I was clear also.

The thing is this lady isn't your neighborhood ignoramus talking about how she can quantum heal and whatnot to impress the other neighbors. She is organized with a full web page, talks at conventions, charges a fairly large sum of money for readings and so on. She doesn't claim one skill, but many. I really don't have a "quest" at least yet, but I thought it may be fruitful to do a little something. That is all I was asking opinions on. As per say, get media attention, video tape her at conventions, I frankly don't know. She is local, and I could meet up her fairly easily as a friend of a friend, or incognito. It's just a matter of simple access.

I suppose I'll rephrase the question. If you found out say Sylvia Brown was a friend of someone you know, would you attempt to do anything, or just leave it be?

I will PM you the site Wowbagger, at least for a few chuckles. It's quite amusing I think.

If you want help to counter her claims, it would be best if we could actually read her claims.

Why don't you want to post the URL?

Nevermind all.
-Wowbagger- And, just what horrible crime have I committed, that I deserved to have this link sent to me as punishment, for?!

I was just looking for some advice. This is more like taking guff for no reason from people I thought were like minded. Though it would seem I'm incoherent and punishing.

All the best guys. I hope when someone is looking for a little insight on something that could be fruitful for skeptics, he/she is treated more as colleague next time.

You are right BTW CFLarsen. It would be fairly easy for her to track this place, and put the simple pieces together on an open forum is all. I don't want to cause drama with family and friends if that were to happen is important too. Besides, if I post the link you may ponder what crime you did. Oh well. Take care.

I was exaggerating my reaction to getting PMed the URL.

Having looked at it, I can't really recommend much else to do. Except... maybe have 'em read a real book about Quantum Mechanics. They might find it talks nothing about healing, and that their ideas about it are wrong.
On the other hand, they might misinterpret the real science into whatever they want it to say, so it wouldn't help.

Well, the important thing is is that humans can't naturally cause quantum effects, since our scale is all wrong; we're too big. It's possible she might reconsider it being quantum related if she learned what real quantum is, but it's likely she'd just find another justification if piles of money depend upon it. :(

darkstar, how about setting up a website devoted to this "quantum healer" showing how ridiculous her claims are - a sort of mini StopSylviaBrowne? It's an inexpensive way of reaching a wide audience.

Oh, c'mon we're not all THAT big. Besides, some of our worst ideas are really really small :)

I don't know that this is correct - since by observing events we theoretically effect them on a quantum level.

But I think the point here is that this woman is full of crap, regardless of what the trappings around it are. Quantum physics are just a placeholder - it could be ghosts or tea leaves or sniffing dirty laundry. It would not matter.

What you should do is give her the benefit of the doubt in assuming she is not a fraud, but rather is deluded. In terms of conducting a test, it may be a bit easier than you think. If she can make a claim that would yield a concrete result, then see if she can live up to that claim.

What does your mother think of all this?

He isn't incoherent. He's typing in broken English.

Darkstar, quit overreacting and just post the link so we can all see what and whom you are talking about. :D
