Mr. Randi's commentary (posted today) mentioned a story by a television reporter in the Twin Cities area, who was apparently taken in by a simple prank (which occurred a short distance from my home, by the way, *cough*), but who chose to report that a "plasma vortex" (Wow!) was more likely than a hoaxster (ho-hum...) to be the culprit.
This story is just one of many stupid stories that seem to pour out of the local television news reports here. Local television news is so brainless and shallow that I can hardly stand to watch it.
For those of you familiar with the old "Mary Tyler Moore Show," Mary worked in a Minneapolis television news department. The anchorman was Ted Baxter (portrayed by the late Ted Knight) who was a first-class boob and a horrible anchor. When I moved to Minneapolis and got a look at the real local news anchors, I realized that Ted Baxter wasn't so bad after all.
