I endorse Hal Bidlack for Congress

I have officially endorsed JREF's own Hal Bidlack to represent Colorado's 5th District in the US House of Representatives. And by official, I mean I posted it on my blog.

I would appreciate it if, over the next few hours, people clicked the yellow "Digg" button at the top of the post, so that as many people see this as possible (registration at Digg is fast and free). I normally don't ask for such favors, but I feel very strongly about this. When Hal officially announces on April 2, hopefully someone will submit his campaign website to Digg; I'll be out of town. I think the day he announces would be a good and appropriate time to do that.

Thanks to everyone. Let's see if maybe we can get some actual change in Congress!

I'm very glad to help, even though I'm wildly jealous of Colorado's fighting 5th. I wish Hal would move to my area and run for Congress here!

I have to know where Hal stands on the REALLY important issues...like gay marriage, prayer in schools, the ten commandments in court houses, and abortion. If he plays his cards right, I might be able to get him on the 700 Club for an appearance

[/sarcasm]

BA, I'd like to salute your blog for having the funniest comment I've ever seen:

Other than the fact that you’re obviously a fever swamp MoveOn.Org type, can you please move beyond your Bush Derangement Syndrome and SPECIFY why the current Congressman has to go? Linking to his voting record only shows he voted yes or no to resolutions and provides no DETAIL about that those resolutions are about. As such, you’re declaration that he “has to go” has little meaning, BA.

I know you want to support your friend, but for a guy who prizes information and fact over rhetoric, you sure have gotten lost in it.

I just can't stop giggling at someone that accuses you of "getting lost in rhetoric" starts off his post by telling you that you're "obviously a fever swamp MoveOn.Org type" and something about "Bush Derangement Syndrome." :D

As you can see, I've already added a link to Hal's site in my sig(even though I'm not even American), to hopefully help with his google ranking. Unfortunately, I cannot Digg your site, since I was banned from Digg after I broke the internets in the Great JREF Digg Debacle (when I managed to single-handedly get not only myself, but the entire JREF forum site, barred from Digg.com).

I rarely screw up...but when I do, I do it with style.

I love this gem:
“I am personally outraged that we have not put the full force of the US military to the task of finding, capturing, or killing Osama Bin Laden and defeating the real terrorists.”

Yes, pull out of S. Korea, Japan, and pull all our peacekeeping forces to invade pakistan.

I'm sad to see that Bidlack is just another partisan shillbag in his campaign.

Could we get Hal to have a forum debate here on the Politics board?
We have them with or without his running for Congress, what is the point of him endorsing a general foaming at the mouth, and doubtless a number of personal attacks?

This is the JREF politics forum, you don't get an objective opinion.

(Damnit, RandFan, you need to have some T-shirts made to that effect.)

corplinx, ding ding ding! You win the coveted "Worst interpretation of a clearly stated message" award!

He did not say the "complete" force or "every arm of the U.S. military in existence". He said "full force", which means as much power as can be brought to bear.

"Partisan shillbag". Heh. Nice try.

I am NOT from Colorado (from Los Angeles).

I did NOT click the Digg thing as I just don't do that sort of thing. Seems silly.

Don't go away, BA. Hang on...

But I actually DID just contribute $50 to Hal's campaign.

GO
HAL BIDLACK!

The critical issue for me in the upcoming election is the Iraq War.

I would not vote for anybody that does not have a position that involves setting a reasonable time line for the US exit, helping the Iraqis as best we can while we are winding down our presence and then actually getting out.

Based on a negative comment that I thought Hal made about Hilary's plans for Iraq, I understood his position to be different than that and I sensed that it was more McCain like.

Now I am not sure. This is a quote from his website:
President Bush blundered us into the wrong war against the wrong enemy. Hal was in the Pentagon on the morning of September 11, 2001. What he saw that day causes him to say “I am personally outraged that we have not put the full force of the US military to the task of finding, capturing, or killing Osama Bin Laden and defeating the real terrorists.” While the US military has performed magnificently in Iraq, we are now stuck between the sides of a civil war. The Iraqi government must make real progress toward peace, and soon.
Except for the part about capturing Bin Laden which sounds like political posturing* to me, this sounded reasonable to me and I might vote for Hal if he moves to Fullerton, CA where I live.

Given that Hal has not yet indicated that he intends to move to Fullerton I am afraid I still won't be voting for him.

*Maybe it wasn't for Hal, but there seem to be very real difficulties associated with the capture of Bin Laden (As Corplinx suggested in his post) that look to become even more difficult as a new government takes power in Pakistan. Over emphasizing the importance of capturing Bin Laden might be problematic.

Thanks, I tried really hard on that one. I knew exactly what he meant to say. Of course, it still doesn't undercut the naivete displayed in his comment.

We know Osama went to Pakistan. We have the guy who helped him escape. The idea that somehow more feet on the ground in Afghanistan will capture him is either a talking point exploiting the ignorance of the populace or ignorance on the case of the speaker.

Cross-reference to another thread. As discussed in the other thread, the seat that Hal wants is solidly Republican, and it's a safe bet that the party thinks it is entitled to that seat (regardless of the merit of the party's politics or the person who actually holds the seat).

I'd love to see Hal upset the apple cart. I also think he'd be damn good as a legislator, and the people in his district would not be sorry.

Those of you in Colorado, get the word out. This is how things actually get done.

I'm all for guys who rock the boat. Despite my flaming, go Hal.

From what I know of Colorado from spending a summer there in 1980, you can't go wrong by making fun of Texans. Especially of you're in cowboy country. I suggest Hal brush up on his Texas jokes.

You are clearly unfamiliar with Hal's sense of humor. The worst thing he can do is brush up on any sort of jokes. The other guy would merely need to propose a constitutional ban on bad puns, and Hal would be lucky to get his own vote.
