I go to start, programs, accesories, entertainment, click on volume control, thelittle hourglass pops up...and nothing.

Any idea why?

Can you give us any more details on what you're running? I don't get the basic Windoze volume control, because the nForce business thinks it can do it better.

Cheers,
Rat.

Oddly enough, when I tried it, going to Accessories>Entertainment, the icons have all vanished. This is presumably because the nForce nonsense has taken control of all of it.

Nonetheless. Reinstall your soundcard drivers. This is the only thing that occurs to me. Sorry.

Cheers,
Rat.

I usually access if from the task bar. In the audio tab in the control panel, there should be a check box to make it appear there. Of course, if your sound driver's buggered, installing it again should fix it.

With Win98, there will be a little 'speaker' icon in the lower right-hand corner (next to the clock). Clicking once on this will bring up a single volume control, double-clicking will bring up the main volume control window.

If your desktop has no such speaker icon, you might be able to access it through Start->Settings->Control Panel->Sound and multimedia. But if there is no speaker icon next to the clock, it's likely there is something wrong with the sound installation and it will have to be reinstalled.

If that's the case, take it to your nearest computer place and shell out the readies.

Search your computer for a file called
sndvol32.exe

That's volume control. You could put a shortcut to it on your desktop.
If you don't find it, that's the problem. I've had that file disappear on a windows 98 computer.
Just google that file name and d/l it, or install it from the original CD.
