OK, so I bought the God Delusion, and though I don't know if I'll ever read it cover to cover, I've spent the last days browsing through it, covering large portions, and these are my impressions so far:
- He raises a lot of good points about a lot of topics, and his book is well worth reading both for theists and nontheists. Better yet, even after all my posts here and the documentaries and articles and lectures by him I've come across on the Web, there was still lots of new stuff in there.
- I earlier complained that Dawkins was unnecessarily rude. This was an impression garnished from watching his documentary The Root of All Evil? and listening to his reading of The God Delusion. He seems a lot less rude when you read him in context, though, in fact, the whole book comes across as rather warm and friendly, and is easy to read, except maybe for the part on the origins of religion, where he discusses genes and alleles and whatnot. Forgive me for the cliche, but it's one of few books I've read that I felt could change lives.
