Looks like the first to jump on the bandwagon following the BBC's effort. I wonder how many drugs will be used this time?

"Look, you're gonna be on TV. If you start screaming and running around the theatre with your organs hanging out it's going to spoil it for everyone and you will look silly in front of millions of people, So bite your lip, okay?"

[pedant] actually on channel 4; not sure if that makes it better or worse [/pedant] Apparently going out live, too - wonder if the surgeons have to pause in the ad breaks

That'd be an interesting study - the extent to which being on live TV effects the experience of pain. Actually, I can think of some good candidates....

From the link:
"A serious investigation into the possibility of using hypnosis to reduce or even replace the use of anaesthetic in surgery."
My first thought is why don't they use hypnosis and acupuncture? :D

It may be interesting, but yes, "if you scream you won't get to be on the telly" might make a difference!

The $50 anesthetic. Tell someone you'll give them $50 if he'll let you perform a simple surgical procedure, and he'll not flinch or cry. Works wonderfully, validated in scientific studies. May have to cough up more money nowadays.

Hypnosurgery Live
Channel: more4 165
Date: Monday 10th April 2006
Time: 21:00 to 23:05
Duration: 2 hours and 5 minutes.

A serious investigation into the possibility of using hypnosis to reduce or even replace the use of anaesthetic in surgery. Presented by Sarah Smith, this two hour special asks whether hypnosis should be more widely available to people unsuited to, too weak for, or afraid of conventional anaesthetics.

Looks like it's a hernia op

Watch a live hernia operation performed under hypnosis.

What sort of professional surgeon would perform a hernia op without anaesthetic , oh wait ...

"A serious investigation into the possibility of using hypnosis to reduce or even replace the use of anaesthetic in surgery"

So we're likely to see a lot of fudging about what/how much as been used exactly, but still a professional respectable surgeon is going to give credance to all this, they make all that money, but still are desperate to get on TV?

No more replies?

This thread is so wrong...

Did you end up making yourselves look stupid or something?

Did you actually watch it?

Did you actually research any of the claims?

Did you actually have any intention of discussing it seriously?

No...I didn't think so. You all came to laugh at it...didn't you? :scared:
