Hurray for high-speed rail!

But......but high speed rail means communism. Didn't you hear?

I doubt that the movies will portray the concepts of the book accurately or intelligently. Which is too bad. People whose opinions I trust have told me it is not very well written and I have been curious about reading the book for the political influence it has.

Just some food for thought:

How did the Nazis get the Jews to the camps? Obama just wants a more efficient system for when straight-white-Christians are hauled off in the same way.

I'm sure Glenn Beck will elaborate on this, but the conclusion is inescapable.

Yay! More people get kicked out of their houses! Yay it does nothing for traffic because it doesn't serve the populated areas. Yay! More damage to the environment! Yay! They always come in under budget

Now that Duke Nukem Forever has come out, this is the Fourth Fifth sign of the Apocalypse

its mighty easy for me to get to the airport.

plus I own a car. I didn't buy a car so I could take the train.

I think those who are opposed believe it means wasted money and probable huge cost overruns. Although we wont know that for years.

And they would still be wrong.

As a supporter of high speed rail I have had people tell me that they thought it was part of a Communist plot. And that I must be a communist subversive for supporting it.

Yeah how communist I must be to want the government to not waste money on $100 billion in new roads and airports when a $40 billion high speed rail system could move the same number of people with room to spare.

I take the train to the airport. Though it is light rail not high speed rail. I imagine you could take your car to a high speed rail train station. I can certainly take it to the light rail station.

I own a car. I use it for different functions than I use it for light rail and the aiport. If high speed rail were an option I would continue to use it for some options but some of those would shift to high speed rail. There is a 120 mile trip I used to regularly take to visit where most of my friends live. This costs me most of a tank of gas and four hours in travel (counting both ways). The monetary cost is about the same but the time is twice as much and more limiting using the non-stop bus line between cities. If high speed rail could keep the cost approximate but reduce time that would return me to making this trip more often.

I guess this film was inevitable with the current trend (for example "Megamind" and "Despicable Me") of stories in which powerful villains are the heroes. In this case not much chance that they'll soften up in the end.

The trailer is only for part 1. Are they going to make it a -- yawn -- trilogy? We all know how that is going to end... 90 minutes of monologue in part 3. The trains look cool though.
