I won't comment because cancer is a really sad thing, but I find it strange that a head of state would get treatment in another country than his own.

Pretty common once you move outside the US and Europe. For example King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia was getting treatment in the US recently and various heads of state have received treatment in the likes of France Germany and Switzerland.

Then you have cases like Viktor Yushchenko who recived treatment in Vienna not just because the hospitals in Ukraine are not that good but because it would not be entirely unreasonable for him to suspect there would be people there who would try to kill him.

It's just not very reassuring to see one's own president not even trusting his own healthcare system.

From a purely political point of view perhaps but due to security issues and the like heads of state and simular rarely use regular hospitals in non emergancy situations.

Having your head of state in a hospital can be seriously disruptive to its normal operation particularly if you have a NHS like system where single bed wards are not that availible and tend to be in use.

It's because Western hospitals are better, and they know it.

Cuba isn't generaly what people think of as western though.

But yes I can't imagain there are many leaders of african countries who would try and argue that their hospitals are up to western standards. What of it?

while it is seems to be more common for heads of states, i have to agree somewhat, it sends a strange signal.
i mean Venezuelan Hospitals are good enough for Venetuela's cancer patients but not for the president? Looks like a double standard, on the other hand Geni might be right about attempts to kill him. who knows.

But im pretty sure many cancer patients in the barrios ask themself why they are not being flown to another country for treatment.

Apparently his cancer has come back. Looks like it may be in the same place too. (Of course, the US is not privvy to his medical information, but that seems to be what is indicated.) Hugo is making noise like he realizes his time is running out rapidly.
Chavez also sounded contemplative, saying he was “preparing for the worst.” Speaking of the lesion, he said that “the possibility that it is malignant is greater than it not being” malignant.

I do wonder how one juggles an election campaign with a malign cancer. Cudos to him for trying, but if this turns anywhere near as bad as it looks, he will loose both battles. Good for Venezuela, but not a fate I'd wish for him or almost anyone else.

Maybe if more dictators died screaming in public, politicians would get a clue.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAhhahahahahaha! Sorry, just kidding. They'd never learn.

Many have died screaming. Some in public. The Romans, in particular, were notorious for hacking their tyrants to pieces, both in and out of public view.

No, they don't learn. The urge to POWAH is too strong in some monkeys. They will murder, plot, fight, and die hold the POWAH in their hot little monkey paws, if only for a short time before being hacked to pieces.

Oh well. Can't say it's been good to know old Chavez. Because it hasn't been.

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Hugo Chavez imply that his cancer and other Latin American leaders cancers might be the result of some United states government plot?
