Huckabee went on to draw parallels between homosexuality and other lifestyles that are considered by some to be morally aberrant. “You don’t go ahead and accommodate every behavioral pattern that is against the ideal,” he said of same-sex marriage. “That would be like saying, well, there are a lot of people who like to use drugs, so let’s go ahead and accommodate those who want who use drugs. There are some people who believe in incest, so we should accommodate them. There are people who believe in polygamy, so we should accommodate them.”

He also affirmed support for a law in Arkansas that prohibits same-sex couples from becoming adoptive or foster parents. “I think this is not about trying to create statements for people who want to change the basic fundamental definitions of family,” Huckabee said. “And always we should act in the best interest of the children, not in the seeming interest of the adults.”

“Children are not puppies,” he continued. “This is not a time to see if we can experiment and find out, how does this work?”

He tried to be nice:

In what may come as a surprise for some, Huckabee agreed that an atheist could be fit to serve as president. “I’d rather have an honest atheist than a dishonest religious person,” he said.

“It’s better to have a person who says, ‘Look, I just don’t believe, and that’s where my honest position happens to be,’” he said. “I’m frankly more OK with that than a person who says, ‘Oh, I am very much a Christian. I very much love God.’ And then they live as if they are atheists, as if they have no moral groundings at all. That’s more troubling.”

Linky.

Oh, so close.

I know it's not really news, but he is one of the few politicians who is giving something close to his reasoning behind these issues. Also, a lot of liberals and sometimes even I have been victim to his smooth talk, and this is a good reminder.

This sentence? I think you should have written it as;
"I know it's not really news, but he is one of the few politicians who is giving something close to his beliefs behind these issues.

I dont think there is a whole lot of reasoning going on there, lots of belief though.

You are right though. The most dangerous thing about Huck is that he is a charming, likable, friendly guy.... who said that the constituition should be amended to be more in line with Gods standards, thinks gays and atheists are lesser beings, doesn't believe in evolution, etc.

I think Huckabee is a genuinely nice guy, but his religion gets in the way.

Huckabee went on to draw parallels between BLACKS and other PEOPLE that are considered by some to be morally aberrant. “You don’t go ahead and accommodate every behavioral pattern that is against the ideal,” he said of CIVIL RIGHTS. “That would be like saying, well, there are a lot of WOMEN who WANT TO VOTE, so let’s go ahead and accommodate those who want TO HOLD A JOB. There are some people who believe in INTERRACIAL MARRIAGE, so we should accommodate them. There are people who believe in DRINKING FROM THE SAME WATER FOUNTAIN, so we should accommodate them.”

He also affirmed support for a law in Arkansas that prohibits BLACKS from becoming adoptive or foster parents TO WHITE CHILDREN.

Fixed the time period for you.

I think Huckabee is a genuinely nice guy held back by his religion and the fact that he is genuinely not that bright. I've never hated him, but I do think he would be a flaming disaster for President... maybe not on the order of Ron Paul, but certainly up there with previous disasters we've had like Carter, Dubya, and Nixon.

The pardoning thing pretty much sums up my problem with him. Was it nice? Sure. It was really nice. Was it kind and generous and giving? Yes!

Was it necessarily what I want our leaders to be doing? Well...
