I suspect that his visiting Australia at this time will act as a catalyst for another wave of anti-American sentiment and remind voters of the extent of Howard's arse-licking.

I don't see that the inevitable protests will be particularly peaceful ones.

There are a lot of people organising protests for the big day. I heard he's going to be at Woolloongong. Oy-vey... One of the leftiest parts of Aus. Say it isn't so!

I'm not going, though. I have better things to do than to yell at semi-literate morons.

"Things are better in Iraq than you might think...", well that wouldn't be hard.

The media will probably go pretty soft on him as far as the anti-war protests go, but I'd expect there to be a great deal of coverage of protests against the proposed free-trade agreement. We are rather attached to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, after all.

Personally, I'm going to bet that the some Australians protest the visit, some are happy about it, and the majority ignore the whole thing and continue drinking.

I know, I know, I'm going way out on a limb here... ;)

Which end of the limb are you way out on the end of?

Heh heh, you are about right, actually. The Rugby World Cup is WAY WAY more interesting. And believable.

Well, you know that when people commit hate crimes, it only grants implicit consent that it's all "OK" if the public keeps silent.

You pretty much say "Yeah George! Go ahead and attack another soverign nation! We don't mind it a bit! Just don't invade France, or anything...."

It'd be rather amusing if Parliament passed a motion condemning Bush's misinformation about the threat represented by Iraq's WMD, but I suspect that the Labor Party will probably elect to play nice during his visit and embarrassing him will be left to the media and the general public.

Personally, I would like to (again) thank him for the sacrifice of thousands of young Americans in the battle of the Coral Sea and other actions that took enough wind out of the IJN that we didn't suffer the ignominy of having the northern part of Australia occupied by Japanese and the associated abuse of the civilian population at the hands of the Japanese army. I think it was not too long ago to forget that.

The days of the flag waving crowds lining parade routes is long gone. GWB will be a ghost in the night......He owes our politicians quite a few photo ops in exchange for us being "one of the willing".

We haven't got any statues of Saddam...

Oh, I see! That was a joke. :)
