Whether it is a backlash for blowing the whistle or a conspiracy, this does not speak highly of the justice system.

Prosecutor in Detroit Terror Trial Charged

DETROIT -- A former federal prosecutor and a State Department official were indicted Wednesday on charges of conspiring to conceal evidence during a botched terrorism trial that proved a major embarrassment for the Bush administration.

Why not? It seems to me that if the allegations in the indictments are true it speaks very poorly of the two men, and poorly of the immediate trial oversight system in that part of the department but very well indeed of the system as a whole. It was prosecutors who discovered the supressed evidence, prosecutors who asked that convictions be overturned and the Justice Department has now indicted two of its own, hopefully sending a message that shenanigans like these two allegedly perpetrated will not be tolerated.

Assuming the allegations were true, I wonder if the whole issue would have been discovered had not the Justice Department and the indicted themselves been battling politically.

How short some memories are. It was just a week or so ago that the Zacaraias Moussaui case blew up when federal prosecutors told the judge that one of the lawyers on their own team had improperly coached prosecution witnesses.

Got a dark conspiracy theory for that, too?

What a valid comparison! Were there any indictments for that case?
