How many so called critical thinkers are conspiracy nuts?

It’s always amazed me just how easy it is to spread conspiracy theories and have people believe them so easily. Some of this range from the attack on the twin towers was a controlled explosion organized by the Jews, the pentagon attack was actually a missile, and there never was a moon landing, Johnson had JFK assassinated, ECT.

What is really surprising is how many so called intellectuals are so fast to embrace these theories. Are there Any psychology majors here that have done papers along these lines?

The most prolific conspiracy theory you'll read about in the politics forum is the ole "liberal media" myth.

I think anti-Americanism has become a disease, especially among Americans themselves. This disease is affecting people's immune system (rational thought) which makes them more proned to believe in these 9/11 conspiracies.
 
THEOP seems to be conflating “intellectuals” with “critical thinkers” the two terms are not interchangeable.
I mean, just look at the woo spouted by groups such as MENSA (including the infamous pro eugenics poem).
A good introduction to the idea of intellectuals not being critical thinkers is in eth chapter “why smart people believe weird things” in why people believe weird things by Michael Shermer.
