How do I set IE as my default browser?

At the moment when I click on a link in an email in outlook express, the browser window opens up in Mozilla Firebird. How do I get it to open up in Internet Explorer?

Thanks for any info :)

Sooner or later, Internet Explorer, if it has ever been anywhere near your computer will kindly inform you:

Internet Explorer is currently not set as your default browser. Would you like to make Internet Explorer your default browser? Click YES or OK

Go to the Control Panel and open Internet Options (or launch IE and go to Tools/Internet Options; same thing). Go to the Programs tab and you will be able to set not only your default web browser, but your default mail client, newsgroup reader, etc.

Why on earth would you want to do that?

I get emails whenever someone responds in a thread I reply to. I much prefer IE for this forum because I have a spellchecker built in, and the typing window is much broader. Also today, when wishing to check the lottery numbers I'd chosen via a link from an email, I got a message saying I needed IE or Netscape.

Hi thanks Shanek. Actually I'd already done it about an hour or so ago.

Now I have another problem though because when I click on a link from an email, and I already have a window open, it will use that window rather than opening another one.

Nightmare :(

Any suggestions?

It wasn'tlike that before

Internet options...Advanced...untick 'Reuse browser windows'.

Cheers,
Rat.

Well, the first thing is "following" links through outlook...

ARE YOU MAD???

OK, sorry. Outlook and Outlook Express have so many fascinating security exploits built into them. You're WAY better off copying a link and pasting it into IE than clicking on it in there. Just so you know.

You're FAR better off using a different email client.

That said, clearing "Reuse windows..." will tend to cause it to open one new IE every time a link is clicked. This isn't usually what you want.

Whichever IE instance has focus is what the link will (or should) grab. Invoke a fresh copy of IE and click a link while it's still topmost. That one will end up loading the contents.
